Damon stood on the roof of the Zenner Corp building, staring out at the city of Las Vegas. It was loud down there, only slightly quieter up on the rooftop, his vampire hearing allowing him to things that humans could not. He listened for the telltale sound of the door opening, Bonnie's scent carried on the night wind. They had to get out, he could smell the danger.
Bonnie was enjoying Las Vegas so far. She had caught herself up on world events and she couldn't believe she had missed so many things in her life. Although, she was quite glad that she wasn't almost 40 and still 18. She was surprised that Damon was in town and she was even more surprised that he wanted to meet with her. It took her a moment to head up the stairs to the roof and she shivered as she felt the night air on her skin.
Damon turned slowly, smiling at the red head. "Thank you for coming." He knew she probably liked it here, she looked different that was certain, but he didn't know if he liked what Vegas was doing to his little bird. "I assume you can figure out why I've asked you to come."
She gave a little shake of her head as she wrapped her arms around herself to fight the night air, "I really don't know. I mean, you are kinda crazy possessive sometimes and you probably want to check on me because you think I'm only 5." She honestly didn't know why Damon wanted to meet up with her other than to just check up on her and tell her that he was watching her.
"Actually I have been keeping an eye on you. I don't like that male roommate. It's improper. However, I think we have something more pressing than your current living situation." He had been repressing the urge to wrap her up and store her in his closet. That was not the most pressing issue. "If I get you the supplies, do you think you can contact Stefan and Elena?" he asked. "We need to get away from here and home. There are far too many vampires around here, including loose cannons apparently."
She heard herself let out a laugh as she shook her head, "Are you kidding me? Who cares about my roommate, it's not a big deal. He's a nice young man." She honestly couldn't believe that he was commenting about that. She pursed her lips together at his next question and gave a little shrug, "Contact how exactly? And do you even know how you can get home? I don't think it's really possible. And I've been staying indoors."
"I don't care if he's the virgin Mary incarnate. He's male and it's completely improper." Yes, that was the most insane thing he'd possibly ever uttered. "And I don't know how to get us home yet, I'm working on it. I was thinking that the same spell you used to contact Stefan and me that last time might work. I just so happen to have the crucial ingredients... And don't ask how I got them."
"Listen to you, Damon, its improper? Oh get over yourself, I already have one mother and I definitely don't need another," She snapped at him, god he was ridiculous sometimes. She was so glad she wasn't rooming with him and didn't have to deal with this all the time. Then her expression turned into surprise when she heard him say that he had the ingredients for the spell, "Are you serious? I can't believe you got them....I don't know if we should do this, Damon. I don't want us to get in trouble if it doesn't work."
"What're they going to do to us, huh? We've been kidnapped. But if you're too scared I'll just do it myself," he snapped. She dared to compare him to her mother?! He stalked closer and leaned in, his face inches from hers. "Keep being a pain in my ass, and there will be no one around to save you next time someone's trying to kill you." Which was a lie. She was one of his mortals, possibly the most important one and he would never let anyone who wasn't he harm her. She was his.
"You don't even know how to do the spell, besides it probably won't work for you. You don't have the background for it," She commented before he came in close to her. Her eyes went wide and she took a few steps back to put some space between them, "Why would someone be trying to kill me? Look where we are, this place is practically a safe haven for everyone."
Damon pulled back, crossing his arms. "Because you scream Please bite me! Little Bird, things are not well on these streets. You may be safe inside this building but if you set foot out there they cannot promise your safety and I cannot promise your safety if I don't return you home." He looked out over the city again. "I have seen this world change many times over, Bonnie. I have seen civilizations rise and fall. I was around before this country was." He paused and turned, baffled at his grandiose speeches lately. But I do not understand why we are here, or what is happening to us. What will happen to us if we stay?"
That was quite some speech; Bonnie didn't think she had heard that much from him before in one conversation. She stared at him, he did seem to care about her, however his intentions about this 'caring' were undetermined. She closed her eyes to take a breath and calm herself down before she spoke to him again, "I really don't know if there is anything we can even do, Damon. I'm willing to try this for you, but it might not even work. Then what do we do? I am going to just try and live a life, you should too."
He smirked a little and nodded. "You be careful with this life. I'll be keeping an eye on you." A promise to his brother none of them knew about. A promise to keep Elena's friends safe and his own irritating affection for the redhead caused his worry for her.
His words brought a blush to her cheeks and she glanced down, embarrassed, at the ground. Those feelings she had been feeling for him were bubbling to the surface again and she was trying her best to push them back down. The last thing she needed was to get involved with Damon Salvatore even though they probably were 'involved' in his mind.
He turned, hands unclasping from behind his back. "I still don't like you staying with this man. You may trust him but I don't. I trust no one who hasn't proven themselves and I even trust them very little. I want you to be careful. I have no intention of running to your rescue at all hours." He had every intention of it. Some small, stupid part of him knew that if she said the word he would crawl through fire. The rest of him highly disrespected that part of himself.
She let out a breath of air and blew some stray hairs out of her face as she gave him an exasperated expression, "I should just invite you over to meet him so we're on equal ground for that and especially since I'm scared that you'll creep him out if you catch him in the street. And I was planning on being careful, you know I'm not the type of person to just go out and put myself in danger."
"Maybe not anymore, but you once were. And I have every intention of 'creeping him out'. He has to know that I'm serious."
"Serious about what? Hurting him if he hurts me? I think he could tell that right away when you walk in. You definitely look like a vampire," She teased him lightly and shivered once again, god it was cold up on the roof.
He chuckled and removed his coat. "Well, yes," he said, moving the jacket and placing it around her shoulders. "If you don't want to try the spell we won't." God he was weak now.
She took his jacket and snuggled up into it, smelling him on the collar. She looked up at him, "I guess we can try it. I'm just afraid that it won't work. But we can definitely give it a shot if you really want to."
"I don't like it here. I don't like not having hunting territory, I don't like my actions being followed and questioned. I am not a submissive vampire, Cara, in case you haven't noticed."
"Oh trust me, I have definitely noticed," She answered as she reached up to move her hair from between the coat and her body, "I'm sure you can work something out with them or maybe you can find your own territory."
"We're not even supposed to drink from humans," he said, frowning darkly. "Can you imagine? I have no tolerance for this. I always leave them alive, only take what I need. I only kill if there is no other solution."
"What kind of sick torture is that? What are you supposed to do if you can't drink from humans?" That just seemed completely mean and stupid. Why wouldn't he just be who he really was and feed of humans? She knew that he wasn't a killer like he used to be, so she wondered who set those rules.
"We're supposed to use the blood the company supplies, which is shit by the way. I've been feeding off humans for five centuries, I can barely stand stag blood, much less this manufactured crap."
She bit her lip for a moment, she might regret what she was going to say, but she felt sorry for him at the moment, "I guess you could feed off me if you really needed to."
He stood still for a moment, unmoving before he shook his head. "No, Cara. I cannot feed from you." He couldn't use her, it would be breaking his promise, and he wasn't sure he would be able to stop.
"Why can't you? You asked me to be a donor the other night. I've given you blood before," She protested, hurt that he would reject her even though she was scared to become his regular donor.
"I promised I would never hurt you," he said, his eyes catching hers, locking there. "And... I cannot promise that I could stop." What the HELL was wrong with him?"
She stared up at him and bit her lip as she tried to think. God, she hated seeing him suffer, which was just too weird for an emotion involving him. She shouldn't care, she really shouldn't care. "You stopped before, what would be different? And besides, you can always feed in secret."
He smiled. "I tried feeding in secret, it didn't work so well. There are vampires out searching apparently. I was caught, though not turned in luckily." He licked his lips, eyeing her neck. "I'm trying not to give into this, Cara."
"Well, you shouldn't be out feeding like that if there's bad vampires running around the city," She mentioned softly as she felt herself blush as he eyed her neck. She was so tempted to give in herself and she gently shrugged the jacket away from one side of her neck.
Damon licked his lips. "I can handle myself, Cara, you know that," he said, licking his lips again. He was moving closer now, mesmerized by pale skin. He was starving, he hadn't had human blood since the night he'd met Spike and hers was pumping, her heart beating so quickly. He picked up a stray piece of wood and handed it to her. "If I get out of hand..." Protecting her before himself? Something was very wrong.
Once the piece of wood was handed to her she felt herself go pale for a moment. Did he really think that he was going to get out of hand from drinking her blood? She wasn't used to this much responsibility with someone else and this wasn't like him, "Okay."
It was an if, if it happened. He didn't want to, he hoped he wouldn't, but as his mouth moved to her neck, he wasn't sure. His fangs moved out and they pushed into her skin and he drank slowly, carefully. He held her firmly, not wanting to let her fall, and tried not to get lost in blood lust.
When the fangs punctured her neck she cried out in pleasure as she closed her eyes. It had been so long since she had given him blood that she had forgotten what it felt like. She wrapped her arms around him and let herself get lost in the sensations.
Damon stopped himself as he started to drink heavily. He wasn't going to hurt her, and he'd taken enough to sate his hunger. "Come on, Bonnie," he said softly. "Come on, let's go get you to bed."
She definitely felt lightheaded and she swayed slightly in his arms. She gently nuzzled her head against his neck as she nodded, "Don't leave me."
Damon scooped her up, shaking his head. "Your roommate will worry if I don't return you, won't he? And I don't want to sleep on the floor."
"I don't think he'll notice. He's probably out or he'll think that I'm just out," She wrapped her arms around his neck and rested her head against his shoulder, sleeping sounded so good right now.
Damon sighed and nodded. "Okay," he said softly. "You can stay the night. But don't whine about being hungry. I have no food."
"I'm not hungry, I'm just tired," She murmured with a soft chuckle, she was totally complacent with him now, "You should get food for me when I come to your room."
"Oh, are you planning on staying over often then?" he asked, walking slowly down the stairs, her weight throwing him slightly off balance.
"I'm sure that you'll bother me into coming over every once and a while," She answered him as she yawned and made a small noise of tiredness before playing with his hair on the back of his neck.
“I promise I won't take so much next time," he said gently. "And I'll run out and get you something for in the morning, to help your blood replenish."
“Thank you, Damon," She whispered softly as she fell asleep in his arms before they made it to his room. She didn't care anymore, she felt good despite having her blood taken, and it was comfortable.
Damon couldn't help the small smile, and he managed to make it to his apartment and get them inside with ease. He moved into the bedroom and slipped her into bed, removing his jacket and her shoes before tucking her in and going to lock the door. He stood in the sparsely furnished living room for a moment before going to shower and then in a pair of low slung pants slipped into the bed next to her, eyeing her hair but not daring to touch.
