He did not expect to gain his trust completely. It was probably more believable not to. His intention was to plant a seed of doubt, and he'd done that. The offering Felix made in return was something Jasper had to be very careful about reacting to. Seeming too eager would be obvious. Brushing it off would uproot the seed before it was ready to blossom.
"I appreciate your acknowledgment that my wife and I are a package deal," he said. "That being said, she does not share the contempt I do for the situation." Jasper forced a frown, a display of his displeasure with that though. "However, that is a generous invitation of you. If the stench gets any stronger..." he met eyes again with the other man and held his gaze. "...a break may be essential."
