If Jasper could at least give off the impression that he was thinking of leaving his family, he thought the Volturi might have an interest in him, even if it only was to obtain Alice for their own. He would never let that happen, but it gain him the ground he needed to get in close enough to learn what they were doing, how they were doing it, and what they needed to do to stop them.
