RP: Getting What's Needed
Who: Milan, whoever
Where: Diagon Alley
When: August 30, 2024
Summary: Shopping for new things and enjoying all things magical
Warnings: None really
Status: Open, incomplete

Milan was at her happiest at this moment. More so than she'd been in the past few days, and finally ungrounded from the werewolf business that happened a few weeks ago. Though under watchful eyes, her parents thought she was well enough on her own to get her stuff from Diagon Alley. They didn't have a problem letting her come here alone, but often they'd make it a family outing thing with lunch and all that stuff. Albeit, Mil made it clear she didn't want that this year. She just wanted to get her stuff and of course stop by for ice cream.

It was just a bit weird that she was overjoyed to actually be returning to school. This was evident by how she carried a few parcels with a bright smile and a hop in her step. The 6th year did her little hop all the way into the ice cream parlor where she picked a stool along the bar that faced in window so she could look out at everyone going about their business. Milan order two scoops, one pineapple and the other butterscotch, both flaked with chocolate.

Sitting on her stool, she she opened one of her packages, revealing a book on the Egyptian god, Anubis. One hand held her cone as she began flipping the pages of the medium sized book. She was far from forgetting about this guy and now that she could, she was trying to learn as much as she could...

Sunday off and ice cream in Diagon Alley while she was shopping sounded like a bloody good combination for Victoire. She had gone into the ice cream parlour with a shopping bag filled with some new robes and a nice new hair washing potion and ordered her usual - two scoops of mint-chocolate-chip on a waffle cone.

Sitting on a stool, Victoire was eating her ice cream in happy silence, staring out the window at the passerbys. Her attention was caught, however, by a striking young girl - probably around Louis' age - that sat beside her and was flipping through pages of a book. The Egyptian god, Anubis, caught Victoire's eye.

"That's quite a subject to be reading on," she said, then smiled. "Sorry, couldn't help but notice what you were looking at. I've just been back from Egypt. Was there for the past two years."

Half her cone was easily devoured as she read up on this god of death and all that he stood for. Or at least as much as this book was telling her. Since the vision she had become perhaps just as bookwormy as Alex and Mona combined. Not that it was all that upsetting. Nothing wrong with a good book, albeit Mil was use to running around instead of sitting.

Milan wasn't paying attention to who was sitting near hear and was startled when she was spoken too. Though it quickly changed into a confused smile. The girl speaking to her was very pretty. That was was her initial response, but she was also surprised to find out that the girl had been in Egypt for two years! The 'Puff almost felt she found a break. Something she definitely needed right now.

"Really? Does that mean you know about Anubis?" Her voice was eager and a bit rushed.

"Oh! I'm sorry. Should introduce myself first; I'm Milan Markl." Setting the book down, she held out her hand for a brief shake.

"Oh yes. Fascinating, though really all the Egyptian gods are - at least I think so," Victoire said with a smile.

The younger witch seemed quite eager towards Victoire and had forgotten herself, which made Victoire smile even wider.

"Victoire Weasley. Nice to meet you, Milan. So Egyptian gods and mythology interests you?"

Milan nodded. All of them were interesting, but she of course had her reasons for focusing on just one.

"Oh! Nice to meet you... But really, Anubis interest me the most. He is an unusual sort as well as terrify," she admitted with a small smile as she looked down at a picture that was in her book.

"How come you were there?"

"Well yes he is terrifying if you think about what he stands for in their mythology. God of the dead. But, in essence, he was there to protect the dead when they crossed over and take them into the underworld. He was there to protect you when you died, so that's a bit of comforting thought if you think about it. And he protected your tomb, and your corpse. But in appearance, he does look foreboding I do have to admit."

Victoire licked some ice cream that was melting down her cone.

"I was there because I'm a junior Cursebreaker at Gringotts. They have a program for Cursebreakers to go to Egypt for two years and study."

She could understand that. And in a way, it was comforting to know that you wouldn't have to be alone when you were dying or dead. Albeit, she wasn't sure what she believed when it came to the afterlife. All she knew is that she had no intentions or want to die soon.

"In a way he reminds me of a werewolf," she said softly, partially to herself. Her ice cream was gone, but she was now munching on her cone, which had been dipped in chocolate slightly. With the heavy topic, it was comforting.

"But, he protects people going in... Does he protect of even help the dead come out?" Milan asked Victoire cryptically. She probably sounded crazy, but she had a good feeling this wasn't about dying as much as it was about living. Even if you weren't previously living, if that makes any sense. She figured the other girl would be knowledgeable on these things she she was older and already forming her own career... A Cursebreaker. Amazing really.

"Hmmmm, yes - the head of a jackal and the body of a man," Victoire said in agreement. She wondered what got Milan's attention to that particular god. Isis, she could understand - but Anubis was a pretty heavy player in Egyptian myth.

She stopped for a second in mid lick, and Victoire blinked at Milan's question. Then, after swallowing the ice cream she cleared her throat.

"That's quite an interesting theory. I've never thought of it because once' you're dead. Well, you're dead, right?" Victoire exhaled a small chuckle.

"But for the sake of argument, since he is the god of the dead and underworld, say if a soul wanted to exit the underworld they would probably need protection. Make sure they cross back over properly. Kind of a creepy thought, but maybe."

Milan gave a toothy grin, belying the fact that she was totally serious and confused.

"Of course! Once you're dead your dead! Not even magic can correct that... Right? Otherwise a lot of people would still be alive and there would be a lot less sad faces in this world." Milan was unsure of what prompted her to say that, but she also left out that people not dying would have a lot of chaos and terror. Some people really didn't need to be coming back to this plane of existence. Oh god! She was starting to sound like some daft professor that spent more time following theories than being normal and socializing. Ugh, no wonder her mom kept trying to set her up on random dates every since she returned home. that woman managed to get 2 muggles and 3 wizards nudged towards her, and she hadn't even been home that long! Most mothers would want their daughter to be single and innocent. Apparently not Mil's.

"It's very creepy, but is starting to sound more and more normal. Anubis helps them come out, so maybe if appeased, he would help them get out! Do you know how fucked up that is!?" Unintentionally her voice rose to a slightly panicked squeak.

"Well if there was magic that could undo death - you're right, there would be a lot more people alive that shouldn't be. But that's just it, the balance of nature would get all skewed. Which makes me think that's why there isn't a magic that can do it. Magic is all about balance, yeah?"

Victoire bit into her ice cream cone, wondering further on the topic when Milan spoke again and her voice got increasingly loud, causing others to stop and stare.

"Shhh, people are looking," Victoire hissed, waving at Milan to lower her voice. Obviously something about this topic got Milan excitable.

"Extremely fucked up, I have to agree but I've not seen anything in Egyptian hieroglyphics that I've studied to suggest that, Milan. He takes the dead to the underworld, end of story. They don't come back."

Victoire looked at the girl. "Are you alright, hon? You look a bit peaked."

Her cheeks heated and for the first time, sh was actually becoming angry. No one was believing her and no one could help her with this! Her cone was gone and now she uses both her hands to scrub at her face, accidentally smearing her eye liner.

"Sorry," she murmured as she contemplated actually hurling herself into the ocean by now. She have bloody well done that when she was at camp. As far as she knew Mona was the only one to believe her and it sadden her a bit. Mainly because she was scared to tell her parents or even her sister. Even Alex thought she was dreaming or just being delusional.

"Looking peaked is the least of worries and I can't say I believe that's the end of any story. People can write on walls all they want, but it doesn't mean they write everything... Or even the truth."

"It's okay, hon. I mean, I understand why you'd be so interested in such things as people coming back after they die. My father lost a brother in the big battle at Hogwarts and I don't think he or anyone in the family has really gotten over it."

Victoire finished off her cone before continuing, wiping her hands on a napkin.

"Well, Anubis is part of mythology and mythology isn't there to be fact. It's there as an explanation of things that had happened back then. Like if your crops are having problems growing, you'd give a sacrifice to the god or goddess that is supposed to help. Nevermind that perhaps that year is a drought and nothing can be done about it."

She was worried that what she was telling Milan wasn't helping the girl at all. Victoire sighed.

"We can only know of history of what we find, so yeah - there can be things that happened that just never got written about. Or talked about. But then, maybe they didn't happen and that's why they aren't a part of history."
