RP: At the Auror's office
Who: Cass Vaisey, Niles Lexington
Where: The Auror’s office
When: August 30, 2024
Rating/Warnings: None
Summary: Cass is at the office working away a Sunday
Status: OPEN | Complete

He’d been at work for three hours already, arriving yawning and wishing he wasn’t as picky about coffee as he was. With the first few case-files he’d woken up more though, and by now he was as awake as he could be.

Deciding he needed a break, Cass got up from his chair and went to grab a cup of tea, turning as he heard a voice behind him.

It was more laughter than a voice. His desk was near enough the hit's head office that he could occasionally hear things, and right now he was listening to a hell of an argument. Someone not wanting to go to the hospital and someone else convincing them they should.

He figured anyone that could argue like that was just fine.

Shaking his head, Vulture glanced up at a passing shadow, grinning as he saw Cass. "Hey," he greeted him before he jerked his thumb to one side. "If you sit here a sec, you can listen to what I'm hearin'," he offered - though he doubted Cass would be as amused as he was.

He hadn't actually honestly intended to come in today, but he supposed catching up - really catching up - on what had gone on here in the past few months wasn't really a bad idea.

Cass grinned at the other man, looking in the direction he was pointing. "Hey," he answered. "Long time no see. Have you had an all right time away?" he asked.

He stepped up, his cup of tea in his hand, listening in the direction indicated. "Who's arguing? Should we be concerned?"

"All right," he agreed. "The last six months were kind of dull, and I was startin' to think that with the change in command, they'd forgotten they even still had folk out 'cross the sea."

He grinned and shrugged. "S'all right now. I get to come back to murders and wolves and a giant steamin' mess." He lifted the file to show what he was talking about.

To the question, he shook his head. "From the sound of it an' the volume an' the topic I've caught so far, I'mma guess it's McKimmon tellin' her boss she don't need to go to the hospital. My theory is, if she can scream like that, she don't need t'go."

"What did you do, exactly?" Cass asked, sitting down, glancing at the file. "Yeah we've all dealt with that one on the patrols. Pretty sure we won't catch him before the full moon." He frowned. "That's not going to be pleasant most likely."

Running his hand through his hair, he scratched his neck. "I don't get why we don't keep a tighter control of werewolves. I know it won't solve cases like this, but it would most likely make our life easier."

He shrugged at the information, not the least bit interested. "I don't see why you'd fight. You go, a healer tells you you can go home, you've lost an hour at most and you didn't yell at your boss." He leaned back. "Not that it's our business." He was unusual for a Slytherin, he wasn't much for office gossip unless it involved him.

"What did I do, over there? Helped out the American wizards with some stuff they had goin' down in Texas. Lots of dead ends and cold cases, pretty much the same stuff we got goin' on up here," he continued.

"So, same ol' same ol'?" he said in regard to Drakkor, not really needing a response to that. Cold cases and dead ends ... story of being an Auror.

"I'm pretty sure we try to keep 'em under control, but you know how easy it is for someone t'keep themselves under wraps? Suppose a werewolf turns some people an' just keeps them locked up in his place, y'know? How're we even gonna know 'bout 'em 'til they're set loose on the population at large? And all we can do is try to figure out from the bodies which way they went, and dead people ain't so chatty," he pointed out. "We do what we can. Send 'em to the hospital, make 'em drink the potion, but we're only so many people. We can't be everywhere."

He wasn't surprised that Cass wasn't interested in the argument, and he grinned as he waved it off. That was fine; he'd keep listening to see how long it took one of them to give up.

Cass smirked. "I myself like to believe we're doing some good too," he said. "Otherwise I wouldn't bother."

He shrugged at the comment. "I'm not talking about these ones, the ones who stay out of our radar - obviously we need to track them, but the other ones could be controlled better."

"It's not important. I just don't like werewolves," he said with a slight shudder.

"So any ideas?" he asked, nodding towards the report. "Something we've missed? Anything we haven't seen?"

He shrugged a little, but he knew he had a pro-werewolf bias. At least the ones that behaved themselves. He was anti-Sterling's sort, but hell, who wasn't?

Save for the people who enjoyed that sort of thing. Sick bastards.

Deciding it was safer to let the topic go for now, Vulture nodded slightly. He heard the door to the office open, and he glanced down the hall to see if he could catch a glimpse, but no such luck.

Bummer. He kind of wanted to see how bad she'd been banged up.

"Nah. Just sorta skimmin' over the charts. Catchin' up, y'know, before I get sent out on patrols and the like. Seein' 'bout where we stand," he added with a grin.

Cass nodded, rolling his eyes a bit when Niles tried to catch a glimps of Brianna. "Same as the rest of us then." He sighed, then stood up. "I should head back to my desk, see what I can make out of the latest reports on the dead."

"I'll talk to you later."

"Sure," Vulture lifted a hand in a wave. "See you," he agreed before he shifted his focus back to the files. He didn't think he'd find anything, but some of the articles had a rather interesting twist on them.

He wondered what was going on at home, and after a glance to the clock he figured he'd give here another half-hour before heading on out.
