RP: Reacquainted
Who: Vulture, Harry
Where: Harry's office
When: Afternoonish, August 29, 2024
Warning/Rating: Language
Summary: Vulture is briefed on what the Aurors have been up to in his absence
Status: Complete

Vulture strolled into the Ministry offices, rolling his shoulders in a stretch. He was due back to work on Monday, and Harry had asked him to come in for a one-on-one catch-up session so he wasn't completely out of all the loops.

Just most of them.

Once he reached Harry's office door, he rapped on it and let himself in. After Harry's secretary announced him, and the new department head called him in, Vulture, in his clunky combat boots, strolled on in to Harry's office.

He studied the man for a moment before he plunked himself down into a chair across from his new boss, and he grinned. "Glad you fin'ly remembered you had a few of us still left over on the other side," he said by way of greeting, a grin on his lips.

Not that he'd minded helping out the American wizards, but it was nice to be home. To be back with the 'watchers, such as it was. Such as they were. After the meeting last night, he had to wonder what the hell had gone on while he'd been gone.

Pushing those thoughts aside, Vulture grinned to Harry.

"Oh, I hadn't forgotten," Harry replied, amusement twitching at the corners of his lips. "I kept requesting that the Ministry send for you, but they kept putting it off," he teased the other male with a shake of his head, raising his hands and spreading his fingers in a 'there was nothing I could do' gesture.

"Glad to have you back, though," he admitted. Extra Aurors were more than welcome considering the area they needed to cover on patrols.

He supposed they should get down to business and he pushed a couple files towards Niles, "The one on top briefs the latest murders."

"Yeah, yeah. Passin' the buck," he said with a wink as he drew the file closer. He knew sometimes the gears got gummed up in the Ministry and things took ages longer than they should.

Opening the file, he tried to pretend this was the first time he'd seen the information - though he'd seen pictures and he knew who was behind it. Didn't know where the fucker was, but knew who was behind it.

Sometimes, he thought Isaac should loosen up a little, open themselves some to the Ministry. They had more or less the same goals, really.

But what the hell did he know? He'd been out of the country for three years. "Gruesome work," he offered as he closed the top file, looking through the other that had been handed over. "So what's our game plan for this? I ain't really talked to anyone since I been back, 'cept the Farnsworths, and only because Isaac has kindly loaned me use of his couch."

"Indeed," Harry agreed with a shake of his head. Gruesome almost didn't seem adequate enough, but he was hard pressed to come up with a word that did justice to murdering six people, chewing them apart, and then using their limbs as a calling card.

"We're patrolling every night, spreading out from Cardiff to London. Haven't found any trace of him so far, but he went a few weeks between incidents last time," he shook his head. He was hoping they'd be able to find him before the full, but time was running short.

Niles' accent, despite the seriousness of their topic, while he didn't quite think it was amusing, it took some getting used to.

Vulture almost pointed out they wouldn't stand much of a chance of finding him, but ... the hell did he know? "Skimmed an article," he said. "McKimmon tangled with him? Tiny little thing, with a sailor's mouth on her? That McKimmon?" He hadn't believed a damn word of that story when Ace told him, despite seeing the article.

But maybe she'd come a way in her training - he only knew her, really, from the first couple of months she'd been in Auror training before she'd decided it wasn't intense enough. He'd left shortly after that. But he recalled her; the girl certainly had made an impression on him.

"So did I pull any fun patrols, or how long am I on my acclimation period, or whatever y'wanna call it?"

"That McKimmon," he confirmed, trying not to grin, but the corners of his lips twitched. Sometimes he was glad Brenna was a Hit Witch and not an Auror, but she was honestly good at her job and the Ministry was lucky to have her. "She had quite a busy summer, actually. I'm sure she'd be happy to fill you in on all the heroic deeds she performed in the last month or two."

Harry was honestly ready to get him out in the field as soon as possible. "Do you feel acclimated?" He smiled. "I've been tweaking the patrols and I can have a patrol schedule ready for you by tomorrow."

"Yeah? Maybe I'll have to track her down, see what she's gotten up to." Though he wouldn't. Not really. He didn't know her that well, and he'd heard about her exploits from Landon when the boy'd come back in from his walk.

"Patrols, already, huh? I dunno, chief," he said as he leaned back slightly in the chair. "I mean, I just got back after a fairly inactive six months. Might have to give me a week or so to get back into the swing of things."

He chuckled and shrugged. "Yeah, I'm set to go out. S'what we do, ain't it?"

"What better way to get back into the swing of things than patrolling?" Harry pointed out with a smile, tapping one of his knuckles against his desk.

"Stop by tomorrow morning? I'll have plenty for you then. You can finish acclimating tonight," he added generously. He'd finish tweaking the schedule today, have their big Weasley dinner tonight, and then tomorrow would be just as busy.

Ah well, that was life.

"Or I could save you a trip to the office an' you could just drop it on my desk Monday mornin'," he offered with an arch of his brows. Come in again tomorrow, really?

He'd do it, sure, if the boss said so, but it didn't make sense to him. "Or owl it," he reflected thoughtfully.

And finish acclimating tonight. He grinned a little. He'd acclimate all right. Soon as he found someone to acclimate with; all the pretty 'watcher-girls had managed to hook themselves up, or so he'd heard.

Wondering if they were done, he tilted his head to regard Harry expectantly.

"Monday's better," he agreed. It was probably paranoid, but he wasn't keen on owling a schedule like that. Maybe he'd see if he could finish everything this afternoon and not even come in tomorrow, then.

"Did you have any questions?" He offered, shaking his thoughts away for the moment. "If not, I think we're all set."

People were already scheduled to patrol tonight and tomorrow, so Niles could wait until Monday to get back into the swing of things.

Vulture shook his head slightly before he pushed up to his feet, heavy boots clomping against the floor. He grinned at the noise it made, but he liked being noisy when he wasn't on duty - it surprised the hell out of people when he stealthed during fieldwork. No one thought he knew how.

"Fair enough. No questions. See you on Monday then, bright an' squirrelly, boss." Chuckling at his own joke, he saluted and turned toward the door to let himself out.

Well, that hadn't been so bad. Nothing much he didn't already have some idea about, and patrols. If he got lucky, maybe he'd get stuck with one of the chick Aurors - not that they had many of them.
