RP: Charlie's Birthday Dinner

Summary: They finally get to make their big announcement

Callum had been impressed with McKinnon- Marlene's planning. The dining room was a lot less informal than many of the stuffy rooms in purebloods' homes. To be honest, most of the house was very relaxed and had a homy feeling that Callum hadn't noticed before. The table had been made longer to accomodate the twenty-seven people present. The seats had been assigned so that everyone had people they could talk to near them, not that it was difficult considering that the majority of them were Weasleys, but he supposed that in big families there had to be people who like each other more or less.

The food had been a simple affair, or as simple as someone like Marlene would come up with. It started with Asparagus Appetizers, followed byWatercress Soup, Beef Wellington , Brussels Sprouts with Chestnuts, Carrot Custard , Bread and Butter Pudding and finally the cake shaped as a dragon. It wasn't simple in terms of a reserve, but at least they were English recipes that he'd know how to pronounce as opposed to some foreign dish that required a translator to say it.

With the cake, there was champagne, and Callm knew that he couldn't wait anymore. He cleared his throat, waiting to see if people would quiet down, but getting that many people - Weasleys - to quiet down wasn't an easy task. "If I could have everyone's attention," he said loudly, the same way he would give orders to his keepers. "Thank you. I-- Charlie and I have something to tell all of you. We wanted to announce it with everyone present." He look at Charlie for a moment, and then to everyone else. "We got engaged. We're planning to get married on the eleventh of June of next year."

The meal had been delicious and she was pleased to sit with her mother by her side. There was still some adjustment to having her around, yet Margot didn't mind it one bit. The wedding announcement was a little surprising coming from Callum Moody since he never gave off the vibe of being a homosexual. However, it didn't matter to her one way or the way. Toasting the happy couple, she sipped on the champagne.

Once the meal was over and everyone moved around the room to congratulate the happy couple, Margot mingled with the guests while sipping on her champagne. Smiling at one of them, she said, "I think I am the only one surprised by the wedding announcement."

Upon arriving at dinner, Rose made sure Uncle Charlie got his gift from them before dinner, which was elegant yet simple. She kept her conversation small, not really wishing to talk about anything significant. Callum's announce that they were engaged was a pleasant surprise. While pleased that they were getting married, it reminded her of her own marriage that was falling apart, which was entirely her fault.

Still, she toasted the two of them and wished them all the happiest in the world. When the meal was over and everyone began to mingle about, she retreated to a less crowded spot. As she sipped on a glass of juice, she smiled. "Hi. How are you?"

Jamie had been the one that hadn't been surprised, but from the look in Marlene and Alastor's faces they were just as in-the-know as he was. However, everyone seemed to be pretty shocked that Uncle Charlie was settling down, with anyone. He was sure that he'd be hearing about this and jokes about dragons for a while, but that could wait.

He saw that Rose was hiding, or doing her best to disappear. He hadn't really spoken to her since Hogwarts and that had hardly been the best of times. He decided that it was time to have a real conversation and walked to where she was standing. "Hey, I'm fine, and you?" he asked, smiling back.

He didn't know if there were rules or things that he shouldn't do, but Jamie wasn't really one to worry when he wanted to do something, so he hugged her and kissed her forehead. "It's good to see you, Rose."
