RP Magdalene and Marlene
Who: Magdalene McKinnon, Marlene McKinnon
Where: Hogwarts to the Ministry
When: 9 December, 2025
Summary: Another McKinnon comes into the world

Hogwarts hadn't changed much in the years since she had seen it last - but then Magdalene suspected it hadn't changed all that much since it's inception hundreds of years ago. But that Hogwarts had not changed was not exactly troubling, what was though was how she had come to find herself in the halls without any clue as to how she had gotten there.

One moment she was on her way through the house and then the next she found herself in a very familiar corridor near her old house entrance. Well this was ... interesting to say the very least. She found a few students on the way to the common room, but they all seemed more inclined to run away from her than answer any questions - really was she all that intimidating?

Honestly, people never changed - you put a woman who wasn't afraid of showing off her attributes in front of them and they acted like they couldn't believe that was what women looked like under all that mess they went around wearing all the time. Finally, she found a young man in the halls who didn't seem to be scared of a woman showing a little skin (he didn't run in the opposite direction at least) and she smiled and started toward him. And then everything went dark.

When she woke again her surroundings were less familiar and the sort of confused wonder of finding herself at Hogwarts was replaced by a rising anger at her current situation. "Well this has become less than amusing - someone had better start explaining what is going on before I really lose my temper."

The explanation, however, did very little to put Magdalene in a better mood, in fact she was quite sure this was all some kind of prank or trick and she wanted very much to have her wand back again - it would go a long way to assuaging her worries about everything, and of course there was very little a good hex wouldn't fix.

And things seemed to get even more frantic when she rather unwillingly gave them her name, really 2025? How anyone was supposed to believe that was really insane. But at least things started to happen once they had her name.

Marlene looked at the Auror that was standing in front of her, white as a sheet, as if she had lost the ability to understand English. "Magdalene McKinnon, that's what she said?" she asked again, like in a trance.

When the Auror nodded, it was like something broke and she could finally think again. Marlene took off her shoes, holding them by their heels, before getting up and running (and she didn't care how undignified for a Head Auror that was) downstairs and all the way to the holding cells.

She barely nodded at the Auror standing guard outside before barging into the room. "Mum? Oh my God, it's you." She practically threw herself to her mother, and again, anyone didn't like it, they could sod off.

Finally a familiar face, though Magdalene hardly had a moment to actually see her daughter before she was throwing herself at her. "Yes, love it's me." She said laughing wrapping her arms around Marly.

"You've only just seen me a few hours ago." She reminded her, though she stroked her hand over her daughter's hair. "Now will you explain to me what is happening here? Is this some training thing?" She asked pulling back just enough to look Marlene in the face while she spoke to her.

Her daughter did look a bit different from earlier in the day though Magdalene couldn't put her finger on it, she was more concerned with the strange stories she was being told and Marlene's response to seeing her again after only a few hours of being apart.

Marlene pulled back and watched her mother, and she could feel the sting of tears. She knew her eyes would be shiny if she saw them. She shook her head slowly. "It's not been hours. It's been ten, almost eleven months." From her mother's looks, though, her few hours were a few years into her own past.

"I'm sure that they have told you about the time difference and coming back from the dead, mostly because I'll have their arses, oh--" She grinned at her mother. "You won't believe it. First they didn't want me as an Auror and now, they went and made me Head Auror, how mental is that? And do you know who's Head of the MLE? No, of course you can't know, but Alastor... oh I'm sort of dating him, well more than that. He's living at the house, with me, and we're monogamous, and that's still a trip, because me, monogamous? It's so ridiculous, but he's worth it."

Marlene could talk forever, but then there were things that she should have said. "We all died, Mum, all of us on the same day. It was the day of my thirty-third birthday. They used the catering company to get inside. I came back from that day and Margot, she's back too. She's working at St. Mungo's, which reminds me, you have to be seen by a Healer according to regs, so we can go and see her, and this is really 2025, and there's so much to tell you that I don't know where to start."

"Oh baby." Magdalene still wasn't sure how to take this news, but the look in her daughter's eyes when she looked at her like that - she hated seeing that, and touched Marlene's cheek tenderly.

And then Marlene started trying to explain things, or she did in her own way, and thankfully Magdalene had years of experience dealing with Marlene and her explanations so she was able to follow easily enough as she was told about her daughter being named Head Auror, and Alastor, she knew him. "Monogamous? Really?" That was the biggest surprise of everything she was being told. She'd always had high expectations for her daughters, that Marlene had been named head Auror was not nearly so surprising as it might have been for someone else. "I would hope I'd taught you better not to go doing something like that for someone who wasn't worth it."

They died. On Marlene's birthday, that was just ... their home was supposed to be safe. "Thirty three?" She asked after a moment to process that. "And I've missed it all." She shook her head. "How is your sister? She's older now too?" Magdalene still wasn't sure how this all worked, but she trusted her daughter more than she trusted anyone else. "There's time for all of it."

She smiled at the gentle touch and kissed her mum's palm, but the tender moment only lasted a few instants, before she was talking again, and obviously her mum knew her well enough to concentrate on the important facts, like the fact that she was monogamous. "I KNOW!" she said, sounding as shocked as her mother. "He never asked, which is the only reason why I'm doing it. I still don't get the point, but it means something to Alastor. You know him, he's so traditional," she said, grinning.

"You won't believe what happened. His brother came back and fell for one of Molly and Arthur's sons. Oh, and we fought three wars against the same bloody maniac. We won all three times, but he keeps coming back," she said. "Oh, he's dead now. The war ended in October and today is 9 December."

She nodded. "Yes, and you were there throughout, so I'll just have to tell you what you're missing. How old are you, by the way? And Margot is fine and yes, she's older too. She came back from the same day."

Magdalene couldn't help but laugh as her daughter displayed just as much shock at her relationship status as Magdalene felt upon hearing the news. "Yes, I do remember that about those Moodys." She agreed, a smile on her face - if Marlene was happy though that was the thing that mattered monogamous or not.

"Callum Moody? Are you certain?" She didn't know Alastor's older brother as well as she'd known the younger but she knew him well enough to know that him falling for a man was not something that fit in line with the sort of view he held of the world. "Three wars? My goodness I've missed so much," almost 50 years by her count.

She nodded, "Yes, you and your sister will both have to tell me what I've missed." She could hardly believe she'd missed 5 years of her daughters' lives. "46 this year." She should have been older, wished she was, but Marlene was here and they would see Margot soon enough, it would just have to be enough that she had her girls now.

"Yes, Callum. Of course, Callum, and yes, I'm sure. It's been--" She grinned. "Interesting to see him work things out, but he's serious about this. We're having a party for Charlie's birthday at the house this Saturday. Callum asked me, which considering how much he hates me was a shock, but at least we're being civil so it's working out fine."

She nodded. "Three, but he'd dead, at least until he decides to return at Hogwarts."

Marlene put her shoes back on and then hooked her arm with her mother's. "Come on, let's follow rules and let's go see Margot. I can drop you off there, then I need to come back for a little while, but the house is all cleaned up. I'm sort of staying in grandpa's room with Alastor, but we'll move if you want it, and I'll try to get out of the office early. I'll make sure they know where to find me, talk to Alastor and I'll come over the house."

"My the times have changed, haven't they?" Magdalene just shook her head, clearly there was a lot that she had missed out on while her girls grew up, and even more that she'd missed while they had been living without her. She intended to hear it all as soon as she could.

She nodded when Marlene put her heels on saying they should go see Margot. "Yes, your sister can keep me company until you're done for the day then I want the pair of you to fill me in on everything I've missed." Magdalene told Marlene, hooking her arm with her daughter's and letting her lead the way. She was Head Auror now after all.

Two accidental engorgement charms had come in so far that day. Margot gave a quick demonstration on an old spell that she found worked better than the newer enchantments before allowing one of the trainees try on the second case. While either case were very difficult, she enjoyed the basics just as much as some of the more complex issues.

When a splinching case came in, Margot jumped at it. She was in the middle of reattaching an arm at the elbow when another trainee told her she had a visitor. "Well, unless the visitor is growing an extra appendage or is on fire or is growing an appendage while one fire, I'm a tad busy at the moment."

"But it's your mother," she said.

"What?!!" Margot asked, almost messing up her spell as she spoke. Looking up at the other Healer with her, she silently asked if he had it before stepping away. She fell in step behind the trainee, casting a cleaning spell over her teal robes to where her mother stood.

"MUM!"

Once they were certain Margot was coming, Marlene was on her way back to the Ministry though under strict instructions that they were going to be having a long chat when she was done for the day. Magdalene still had so much to catch up on after all.

She smiled easily when Margot was finally able to see her. "Margot." She looked so grown up, she had only missed five years and yet it felt like so much more after seeing her daughters.

"Oh love." She reached out to her as she approached her, and wrapped her arms around her. "Marlene tells me it's procedure to be seen by a healer after arriving at Hogwarts - I hope you won't mind that we asked for you." She teased her, Magdalene wouldn't have let herself be seen by anyone else knowing that Margot was here.

Her excitement over seeing her mother was overshadowed momentarily at the actual sight. Magdalene McKinnon was younger than the age of her death, but she looked just as Margot remembered. As her mother approached her, she automatically opened her arms and wrapped them around the older witch.

"Oh Mum! I can't believe it's really you!" she said. "Must be a new procedure because Marlene took me home and gave me a drink." Of course, her reaction was to make sure her sister wasn't suffering from some modified Memory charm.

"Of course, I don't mind at all. Besides, overwhelmed, is there anything else you feel?" Margot asked, pulling away.

It still felt like it had only been a few hours since she had seen her daughter last, but if it had truly been nearly eleven months as Marlene had said then Magdalene wanted to see both her daughters even more.

"Yes it's really me." She assured her youngest daughter, laughter in her voice, she felt like she might be assuring people she was really herself quite often - though it was impossible for her to be anything else.

"Perhaps it is, I didn't ask. Did you hear your sister is trying a monogamous relationship?" Magdalene asked shaking her head still, that was by far the most unbelievable bit of news she'd gotten. "Though it is with Alastor so I don't suppose I can be too surprised, I always said he would make her happy." This just hadn't imagined her daughter to have settled herself down like this, and so young too.

Magdalene shook her head. "Oh I'm find love, more importantly, how are you?"

Part of Margot knew it was really her mother, yet something about physically hugging her and feeling her breath made it appear more real. "Thanks for humoring me," she teased her mother when Magdalane chuckled.

Nodding, She linked arms with her mum and lead her to a private room. "I always saw the two of them ending up together one way or another," she answered. "It is still a little surprising though, but she's happy."

Margot smiled. "I am good. Not settled like big sis," she said while gesturing her mother to sit on the bed. "Please watch the light at the tip of the wand." She quickly gave Magdalene an exam.

"As I suspected, in prefect health."

"You know I'll always humor you, love." Magdalene smiled, oh she did love her girls, and all of this couldn't be so bad if they were both here and well - that was the important part.

"He's been her best friend since they were eleven, I always figured he would be around." Magdalene agreed, though this was not something she had seen coming. "As I've always told you both, I've only ever wanted you happy."

She huffed amusedly but let Margot examine her, just so they could say they got this done. "Like I told you." She smiled though. "But tell me about you, what are you doing now? Apart from working." She added. "Are there any boys, or girls maybe?" She looked expectantly at her daughter. "Are you having fun?"

"Well, if you don't no one will." Still reeling from her mum's arrival, she gave her quick squeeze. While she always considered herself more like her grandfather, Margot adored her mother's personality and passion for life.

"And we are happy," she replied. Even though she worked far too much for her own good some days, Margot loved it. The exam was quick since Margot could tell right away nothing was wrong with Mum, but followed procedure as expected.

Rolling her eyes at her mother's question, she shook her head. "No one of importance from either gender," she answered. Since her disastrous attempt at causal, Margot pretty much avoided getting close to anyone these days. It was easier that way. "I have fun when I'm not working, which you will probably think is not often enough."

Magdalene shook her head at her daughter but smiled, Margot always was the more sedate of her girls, it was likely why she had gotten on with her father so well, but she always sold herself short. "I wouldn't be so sure about that."

"Good," She would of course continue grilling both the girls for more information than simply they 'were happy', Magdalene wanted details about what they had been doing, the years she had missed all of it. She would get it in time, so she didn't press further at the moment.

"That's a shame love, they don't have to be important though, unimportant can do wonders for your mood from time to time." She reminded her daughter. "As I understand it everyone has been busy recently, it's not entirely unexpected for you to be the same."

"You know me, Mum. I'm far too serious for my own good," she said, making fun of herself. "Besides, it's always nice having you around to humor me."

Margot quickly summoned any paperwork necessary to clear her mum and filled it out. With a final slash across the end of the parchment she signed her name.

"As I'm been told repeatedly," she said with a small sigh. "However, I'd rather be important than just scratching an itch." Sometimes she wondered how she came from such an open family. She wasn't a prude in anyways; she was just selective.

"I will always have time for you," Margot replied with a smile. "Why don't we see if I can take a few hours off to get you settled in at home?"
