Things were going far out of control. All she wanted was to see him and here he was saying he shouldn't have proposed and that things went too fast. Is he basically saying he doesn't love me? The room spun and she felt as if the walls were beginning to close in. She closed her eyes for a moment as she took a deep breath trying not to burst into tears or panic.
"Avoiding one another will not make it easier to get to know each other," Rose said. "If you would like to spent time as just friends, I would be open to that."
Watching him avoid her eyes and looking around just made her feel like all the progress she made had been a waste. What is the point of getting better if there was no one around to be there for you? "I will let my family know that we're taking time apart."
Rose took a shaking breath and stood; she had to get out of there. "You have another set and I don't want to distract you," she said. Again, she leaned over to kiss his cheek, but she stopped. In a whisper, she said, "Good luck. Please don't give up on us yet. It's not your fault; it was mine. I didn't mean to rush you."
In the end, she did kiss his cheek before she left the pub, praying her entire world hadn't just crumbled under her feet.
