RP: Hannah and Max
Who: Hannah Abbott Longbottom, Max Hunter
Where: The Leaky Cauldron
When: December 2, 2025
Summary: Decorating the pub for the holidays

"No, sweetie, those do not go into your mouth," she chided softly to the small boy in his sling. Sammy was wiggling and reaching for every single colorful glass ball that she removed from the box. Since promising Neville she'd wait to decorate the house, Hannah decided to get working on decorating the Leaky instead. Yesterday, garlands of evergreen branches and holly were hung along the windows and above the door way. Each room was adorned with wreaths of holly and red and white ribbons.

Today, she was decorating the tree Chris had brought in for her with brightly colored glass balls and fairy lights. There were still centerpieces to place on the tables, but Hannah hadn't decided on what she wanted to have just yet. For the time being, she was content with just making the place more festive. Engrossed in her work, she didn't notice that someone had come to stand next to her until they spoke.

"Hi! What do you think?"

Max had given in and allowed Artemis to talk him into getting a third Pygmy Puff. They had a pink one and a blue one, but at the re-opening of Wheezes there had been purple ones and the little lad hadn't stopped talking about them since. He'd even decided on a name for the new addition before they even bought him. Mace, because of his colour obviously. Max was starting to regret ever letting Art watch Star Wars...

Stepping back into the Leaky from Diagon, Max smiled as he saw the Landlady -Hannah- dressing the tree. It was brightly coloured this year, a refreshing change from the more traditional colours. Art tugged on his hand, wanting a closer look and Max followed. Not wanting to startle the witch and her baby, he muttered a soft hello as he stopped beside her.

'Oh, its lovely.' He smiled shyly, trying to think of things to say. He wasn't used to being sociable. 'Art approves, so it must be good.' He looked down at his son, making sure he didn't touch anything he wasn't supposed to.

"Sugar plums and bright colors is just what this area needs," she answered looking down at the young boy. "Hello, Art. This eating machine here is Samuel." Hannah gave her son a small tickle which sent him into a fit of gurgling giggles. Since Sammy was snuggled into the sling he couldn't swing his arms out, yet he managed to free one of his little hands.

"Looks like your pygmy puff would match the decor."

She turned to look at the young man next to her. "You look very familiar," she said before chuckling. "I say that to everyone, but I swear I know your face from somewhere."

He had to agree, after everything that happened, Diagon seemed more than a little subdued. With the exception of Wheezes of course. 'Definitely,' he nodded watching Art showing the Pygmy Puff the tree.

'Hi Samuel!' The little boy waved up at the baby in the sling. Smiling at Hannah too before his attention was caught again by bright, shiny things on the tree.

Max was caught slightly off guard by the question; of course he shouldn't really be so surprised when people recognised him. But it was still something he wasn't quite used to. 'Oh, I play Quidditch. Um,
I'm Keeper for the Tornadoes.' He laughed quietly at his own inability to talk properly. 'Max Hunter, nice to meet you.'

Sammy giggled again as he shook his free hand. Since he was wiggling more than usual, Hannah lifted him from the sling as she transfigured one of the nearby chairs into a high chair and placed him in it so he could see the tree. As soon as he was free, he began grabbing for things which forced her to conjure up a spoon for him to bang on the tray with.

"Do all little boys go through a banging phase?" she asked, looking at Art who was showing the new pet the tree.

Shaking his hand, Hannah smiled back. "It's a pleasure to meet you. Are the Tornadoes doing well this season?" She wasn't at all ashamed of the fact she didn't follow the sport religiously, although she might have to show more interest in it for the future.

"You are the third Quidditch player I know personally. Not that I 'know you know you', but it is still nice to say I've met you." Hannah chuckled. "Would you two like anything to drink? Butterbeer or peppermint hot cocoa?

Chuckling Max nodded, 'yes, definitely. Though its isn't just a phase I'm afraid. They return to banging things every year... at least my monster did.' He ruffled Artemis' hair when his son finally decided to rejoin him. 'They do get a little more tuneful though. Art's Auntie bought him Bongo drums.' Max shook his head slightly with a wry smile. 'I'm not sure I appreciated them as much as Arty.'

He smiled properly at her question. It was refreshing to meet someone who didn't know his team's form better than he did. 'Well, we're holding our own. About average I'd say.'

'Well I'm glad its a nice encounter. I'd hate to leave a bad impression.' He blushed a little. 'Peppermint hot cocoa would be great thanks.'

"Brilliant. Something to look forward too," she said as she sighed. So far the banging hadn't bothered her too much, but who knew what would happen in the future. "We may want to invest in some of those too some day."

When he answered her question without looking at her like she grew an extra head, Hannah smiled. "Average is good. Season's not even half over yet, so plenty of time for improvement," she said optimistically.

"Only way you could make a bad impression on me is to start a fight in the middle of my pub," Hannah said before taking their order down on a piece of parchment from a stack on the table with the box of ornaments. "Two peppermint hot cocoas coming up."

Moments later two mugs levitated over to them. Plucking them from the air, she handed one to Max and after taping the other mug lightly with her wand to cool it down some, she handed it to Art. "It might be a little hot still, so blow on it to cool it down," she cautioned with a smile. "So, what is your pygmy puff's name?"

'Bongos have a nicer tone than trays or saucepans.' Max grinned, watching Art carefully, making sure his son didn't inadvertently wreck anything. He nodded at her optimistic reply. 'You're right, we may just win it yet.'

The fight comment had him frowning. Why would anyone want to fight? With all the trouble that had happened recently, the war, the murders... Max just didn't understand why two people would want to come to blows over something insignificant in comparison to all that.

'Thanks.' Max took the offered mug and sipped it. 'Mmm delicious.'

Artemis took his own mug carefully, blowing on the liquid as he was told. 'He's called Mace, after Mace Windu.' Art smiled up at Hannah, expecting her to know who he was talking about, naturally.

'A Jedi from Star Wars.' Max supplied. 'Muggle films are Arts favourites.'

Chuckling in agreement, she glanced over at Sammy who was still banging the spoon hard against the tray and giggling. "As long as I limit the banging time, I can live with it."

Hannah blinked at the name of the pet and blinked again when the little boy announced who the pygmy puff was named after. "That is a great name," she replied with a smile even though she had no idea where a child would get a name like Mace Windu.

"Oh!" she answered, still confused what a muggle film entailed. "What's a Jedi?"

'Yes you need to limit the banging time, or you end up going through lots of headache potions.' He smiled, sipping his drink again and watching his son as he carefully sat in the chair beside Samuel's.

He had to stop himself from chuckling at Hannah's obvious confusion over the Pygmy Puff's name, and his subsequent explanation. 'Well they are like Knights... with light swords and some magical abilities.' He shrugged. 'Sort of. They live in space. The films are set in a galaxy far far away.'

Hearing another parent agree with her assessment of banging caused Hannah to smile. "Maybe I can get him to start learning musical tones and then the banging won't be so bad." She chuckled at how ludicrous the idea was, yet she was still hopeful.

"Knights are very noble," she replied, still a little confused. She was about to say something else when Chris called out to her. Hannah gave a little sigh.

"Looks like duty calls. You two enjoy the hot cocoa," she said before leaning down to Art. "You will have to come by when the whole tree is finished." She flashed them both a smile before gathering up her son and placed him back into his sling.
