Ron was in the kitchen, his wand waving over the sink and tables while he attempted to clean up some of the messy dishes that had accumulated over the day, scraping off excess food into the trash and flicking his wand to toss the dishes into the soapy water to clean them off. His mind wasn't really on the typical household chores, though. He just needed something to do with his hands while he let his mind wander.
There was something all too familiar about the growing unease in the office these days. He could remember all too clearly the way people had clung to peace during the second war, how they had remained unconvinced of the dangers that faced them even when they were faced with disappearances and deaths at all corners of the world. But he thought that deep down, they'd all known in their hearts what was going on, and just been too foolish to admit it. It felt like that now, only instead of being aware of what was going on and being the one who was hoping to convince people of it, it was one of those people who was searching furiously for an explanation, and seeming to be helpless to stop it.
Not that this was the sort of thing that he should be anticipating - he didn't think there was any amount of training that could make that happen. But the fear of what was still to come weighed on him. Libra's kidnapping... the rogue wolf attacks... it seemed so... odd to be focusing on things like making sure things were in order to catch the Hogwarts Express in a week when there was a wrinkle in the peace that sent echoes through his mind of a time when he saw fear in his mother's eyes every time he moved towards the door to leave the house.
But maybe that was part of the problem. That he had lived through that time, and now knew what the warning signs were, and as a consequence was seeing them everywhere. Heaving a sigh, and running his fingers quickly through his hair, he gazed around the kitchen to see if there was anything else pressing that he could clean up. Normal. He just needed to remind himself that - at least for now - things were still just plain old boring normal, and pray that they'd stay that way.
