Bill could easily see that this meant a lot to Charlie, not that he'd doubted it, really. His brother would never mention marriage if it wasn't serious.
"We were engaged for a year," he told Callum. "And I hope your son will be happy for you. I realise it's not what was customary in your time, even in ours its new." He wondered briefly if this was why Charlie had never been seriously involved before. Was he worried about bringing a man home to their parents? It wasn't any of his business though, so he let the thought slip as quickly as it surfaced. "Hopefully Charlie is right, and he'll be happy for the both of you once he has had time to think about matters."
Bill did laugh at Charlie's and Callum's comments, rolling his eyes at his brother's comment. "Says the so much younger man," he teased. "Oh wait, you're almost as old as me," he teased.
"Which team did you play for?" he asked Callum. "And for how long?"
