"Took you a while," he said with a sigh. "I'm not really sure what you expect me to say at this point. We can barely stay in the same tent without something going wrong. It's not exactly the basis for a marriage."
Callum reached out and covered Charlie's hand with his. "I don't know what you want me to say at this point, Charlie. Everything is so fucked up. I thought I could do it. I really meant it when I brought it up, but now... I don't know. It feels wrong. We shouldn't be doing this just because we're miserable. Isn't an engagement something happy? It doesn't feel happy. It feels all wrong, like we're trying to patch something up when the cracks got too big and you can't keep the pieces together."
He closed his eyes. "I'm too fucked up for this. This feels... like when I was in the league, but even worse in a way, because I'm not twenty any more and there's no league or fame or even friends."
