Al's gaze flicked from the writing to Andromeda's lips - moving.
Pawns... too many human lives dismissed and disposed of... tossed to the side of the board.
"Do you play chess?" Al bit his lip. "Sometimes I think that the associated objectification of human beings should have made the game distasteful to me long ago, but then I am joined by another player and watching their mind at work over a solution makes it all worthwhile.
My sister," he shared. "She preferred noughts-and-crosses. It was the easiest game to play when we exchanged letters." His lips stretched in a small smile. "Our last game... I suspect we both cheated, but she cheated her way into a winning move."
