"I didn't say you did." Sighing in exasperation, Alastor gave up his post at the door and came to sit down. "I said that was the only time you should have to go through me to get to him for anything." Some day people would listen to the words he said instead of the implied meanings their minds prescribed for them.
"If he was taking this course of action because it would make him happy, I wouldn't be here. I said his happiness should be important to you. Not that he was heading for happiness this way." Pinching the bridge of his nose and squeezing his eyes shut, Alastor reminded himself he was here to help his brother. "All right. Point by point. No, I'm not upset. I'm worried about my brother's well-being. No, I don't know exactly what happened between the two of you. No, you don't what I have or haven't been through in my own life. No, I don't think it's easy.
"Yes, I do think I know how my brother's feeling better than you seem to understand. Yes, I still think you're an idiot if you can just sit here and let him go when it sounds as if neither of you will be happy that way."
Alastor stared. "What went wrong is that you said 'no'. I'm not saying you might not have had a very good reason for doing that. But, you said no. What continues to keep it wrong is that you've both given up without a fight at the first sign of trouble. Tell me you at least understand why he's leaving, why Baron and I aren't enough to keep him here."
