Charlie rolled his eyes. "It's not as simple as that, Perce." Maybe if it were things would not be so damned confusing now. "I don't know how these things work, I've spent my life avoiding relationships and then I somehow got involved without even realizing it. Look I know it's strange, and probably not the way normal people do these things, but..." He shrugged, "I've never wanted someone there at the end of the day the way I've wanted him. I have friends for socializing and it's always been easy enough to find a shag, but it was different with Callum."
He sighed. "That's the problem though, I'm the only one who knows how competent he is. I'm the only person who has worked with him before - no one else would know why he got this job."
Charlie was just about ready to explain in detail what exactly bringing people back to the reserve meant when Percy stopped him. "It's a relationship, Percy. That's what I'm trying to make work, what I thought we were trying to make work." Charlie shook his head. "It doesn't matter who he brought back, I don't know who it was - that's not the point." The point was that it hadn't been him, that Callum was shagging someone else. Maybe Charlie didn't have the right to be upset over it, but he certainly couldn't stop himself.
