RP: A New Minister
Who: Percy and lots of others
Where: Ministry for Magic
When: 12 November, 2025
Summary: Percy moves on up.
Percy hadn’t slept much the night before. Everything he had done professionally was in preparation for this day. Before going to the Ministry, he had made stops at two separate cemeteries. First, he stopped at the graves belonging to his parents. The fights, the estrangement, the pranks from the Twins, growing up in Bill’s shadow… the memories came flooding back. But they were drown out by a stronger, more meaningful memory: His parents’ undying love.
The final stop before the Ministry was to pay his respects to the person he had initially hated more than anyone else in wizarding politics. But over the years he had come to admire the most. The person who he had come to think of as a mentor, a guide. “I’ll do my best, Narcissa,” he said as he laid the flowers down.
Although the stops might seem as if he had come to think of his election as a foregone conclusion, he had prepared two statements: one, if he won; one if he lost. He was not about to tempt fate, not when he was this close.
The die had been cast. He had given it his best shot. There was no more sense to lobbying any further. The pieces would fall as they would. About 9:30, he strode into the Ministry and handed his wand to the security guard for what he hoped would be the final time.
He waited with Audrey and a few others. At the end of the clock’s 10th bang, he kissed her hand and smiled, looking into her eyes. She was the love of his life, and win or lose, he had her and their daughters, and he knew that’s all he needed. “Moment of truth,” he whispered.
Later that afternoon as he walked from behind the mammoth, wooden desk and went to open the office door, he realized that most of the day had passed in a blur. Before he knew it, he was introduced to the Wizengamot and sworn in. People, hundreds of people, offered their congratulations. Hermione handed him a stack of files and said she was off to care for her daughter. A voice boomed through the halls of the Ministry announcing his election. There were so many camera flashes he thought he might just go blind. Then there was the run-through with Jamie and the speaking to the Press. It felt like it had been an ice age before he was even allowed to go to his office.
“Let’s get to work, Lex,” he said as he motioned for his Adviser to come in and closed the door. The door that was now emblazoned with these words:
Minister for Magic
Percy Ignatius Weasley
