‘I’m glad you didn’t.’ He looked up at her, watching as she sat down. ‘For what that’s worth.’
He didn’t say anything else, because really, what could he say? Instead he rested his chin on his right knee and listened as his wife explained herself. He wasn’t entirely sure where the idea that she’d been focusing on him came from. But he didn’t voice that thought, not wanting things to become even more awkward. Her apology was a little unexpected, but at least she was clear enough to realise things hadn’t been right.
‘Don’t worry about that now. Just make sure you get better.’
