Callum saw the smile, and after a sigh, he smiled, too. "You have to laugh. This is beyond ridiculous. Only we could find things better during a war."
He was restless, but instead of getting up, he leaned back, stretching his legs in front of him and rubbing his face as he did so. "You're going to come out just fine, no matter what we do." He didn't think for a moment that Charlie was taking advantage of him, but things had to be clear.
"People know you; you have a reputation. They had no idea who I am or what I can do. What they will know is that I'm sleeping with you on a regular basis. A few weeks aren't enough for them to know that I can do this job, and if I don't have their trust, we're in trouble." Saying it allowed made it even worse. "Maybe I should find another reserve, because I don't think we'll be able to be in the same place and pretend that there's nothing going on. I also don't want to get married just to make things better with the other keepers. I never thought I'd do it, but if I ever do, then it has to be the real thing."
