She'd thought she couldn't love James any more than she already did, but sitting here, watching him try to fix things with his friends, and being so damn mature, she knew she was wrong. He was trying, and Remus and Sirius had to see that, didn't they? They had to know that there hadn't been a matter of choosing anyone over anyone else, that she and by extension James had done what they felt best for their child at that time.
"Of course we expect you two to play huge roles in this child's life, just like you did with Harry." Her voice caught on her sons' name, and she tried to push it away, because she didn't want to make the evening worse. "And if you think I don't cry myself to sleep some nights missing him, then you don't know me very well Remus. It makes me ill to know that this child will only know his or her brother through stories, and I'm counting on you two, who wholly embraced Harry from the start, to help with that."
She looked at Remus, and debated revisiting the issue of his relationship with Regulus, but decided it wasn't worth it. He didn't seem to understand that it hadn't been the length of time before they'd found out, but how and from whom. They hadn't even found out from Remus himself, and yes it hurt. But they'd gotten past it, or she thought they had.
"Now," she said, forcing cheerfulness because these were still their friends, their family, and if she had to force them into enjoying themselves she would. "You boys are going to sit here and play nice while I get the dessert."
