She had to clamp down on the impulse to slap Regulus across the face and tell him to stop being a petty little brat. However, because she loved Remus and she wanted this evening to go well--and wanted to preserve James' relationship with his best friends--she simply smiled and took a tiny sip of Champagne.
"Yes, children can be extremely unkind to one another," she said, stressing the word children just a little. "But they do learn from their mistakes," most of them, anyway, because she didn't think Regulus had ever learned a lesson in his life, "and do their best to avoid repeating them."
She returned Regulus' smile, sure it looked like two vipers about to attack, and linked her hand with James' under the table. She needed the reminder to keep control of her tongue, even though it was especially hard. "It has nothing to do with who is more important," she said, making sure to keep her voice even and pleasant. "Owls are a perfectly wonderful method of communication, I just prefer something more intimate, when there are only a handful of people to share this news with."
After another tiny sip of Champagne she continued, "Yes, Marlene McKinnon, Severus Snape and Albus Potter. Marlene because she is my superior and needed to know for work purposes." She didn't owe any explanations, but she knew that Sirius and Remus deserved to know so addressed the next part to them, dismissing Regulus completely.
"We told Severus because the Healers were concerned with the number and type of hexes and curses from the battle. There was a high chance of miscarriage, or other effects of the Dark Magic, and I felt most comfortable asking Severus for his help. The Healers have given me a clean bill of health, but Severus is still going to do some checking of his own. Al happened to be there at the time, so he knows as well."
