Owl: James & Lily to Lily Luna
Who: James Potter, Lily EvansPotter, Lily Luna Lestrange Where: In their respective "residences" When: 28 October 2025 Summary: James wants to send a letter to his granddaughter.
Dear Lily,
It's your grandfather. I'm just writing to check on you and let you know that everyone is doing all right...for the moment, anyway. I hope you're doing well yourself. Grandma Lily and I just got a house. It's really big. Perhaps if you get better, you might come and see it. Merlin knows we've got enough rooms here.
Al and Severus seem to be getting along well. Don't tell Al or anything...or Severus at the moment, but I think I am developing a slight soft spot. It might be due to a lapse in mental sanity. However, he really does seem to love your brother quite a bit, and as Grandpa James, I am supposed to be supportive and happy for my grandchildren, right? Since one of my grandchildren is being looked over by Sirius, I guess that means I am left to be protective of you and Al. I'm okay with that. Perhaps your grandmother was right all along.
Oh! I did want to tell you a funny story. Then this letter isn't so serious. Avoiding horrible pun right now. I was at the store the other day, getting a present of food for your grandma when all of a sudden this small child threw an orange at this guy...Well, I guess the guy didn't find it so funny because he fell over, but then the kid's face was so bloody priceless. It was like he'd won the the Triwizard prize or something. His mother was not a very happy woman. She yelled at him...but I snuck him a cookie after I bought it, of course. We can't run around stealing from stores, now. It kept him from crying...so I feel like I did the world a great service.
Your grandma just wanted to add a note on the end. Hope you won't mind another person in the letter.
Lily, I'm happy to hear that you've been getting help, and wanted you to know that we miss you around here. I know we didn't get a chance to get to know each other much, but I hope we can fix that in the future. And your Grandfather is right, we'd love to have you and the baby come to stay when you're well. You'll always have a place here.
And as for his story, he forgot to mention that the orange broke the guy's nose, and the mother had every right to scold the child. Stores are not the place to be throwing oranges. We'll save that for the Quidditch Pitch, and exchange oranges for Quaffles.
However, I'm sure the child appreciated the cookie, and the world has one less crying child.
