The woman who might have walked through Caractacus Burke's door was every bit of a strict, prim, and proper professor. But that wasn't the woman who stood before him and shared his drink.
Eileen certainly wasn't one now, as she curled up comfortably in Burke's armchair. Her shoes were left on the floor and her bare feet were tucked in under her. Eileen gathered her lanky form into a comfortable position and hugged one knee to her chest. As she looked up at Caractacus, listening, she still could not quite believe what she'd just heard him say.
He was so sincere...
That sincerity left a scratchy, raw sensation in her throat. Even if she had found words to match the statement, she would not have been able to voice them in a proper tone they deserved.
She extended her arm instead. "Here," she murmured. "Since you're acquiring 'stones at an alarming rate, I'd better show you how to make them spin."
