Hugo was bored out of his skull. After months of being busy almost nonstop, the few days he'd been home, mostly confined to bed, had been almost torture. There were no classes, no farming, nothing to do but stare at the ceiling or read. And while he enjoyed books, he wanted to be doing something. He wasn't even supposed to fly yet, Healer's orders, and that was just about the worst thing ever.
And even though short trips to the kitchen tired him out, he still wanted to be doing something. He levered himself out of bed, wincing as the still painful scars pulled at the skin on his back. There was a vial of pain potion next to the bed, but he didn't need it yet. He was determined to handle this like an adult, and not become dependent on potiosn to make the pain go away.
Instead, he needed distraction and since flying or anything strenuous was out, he'd have to find something else. Which was how he found himself in the kitchen, fixing dinner, when he heard his sister's voice, and then saw her come through the door.
"Hey," he said, smiling. "Just in time. Are you hungry? I'm making a chicken pot pie."
