"Yeah," Alex said, nodding and sitting up a bit, pulling his pink duffel from under the bed. He slid his hands into the side pockets, searching for the tight roll of parchment, finding it deep in the widest pocket and holding it up.
"I kept hoping that Mona had hers and that she'd write back, but she never did." He shrugged, stretching it out toward Fred and feeling it tug from his fingers.
"I bet you could figure out how it worked. Dad said it was sort of like a Protean Charm, but not exactly. I tried like hell to do one. A Protean. Never could quite get it right."
