"I'm not a kid dad, even if I'm only sixteen. I haven't been a kid for a long time, and I know you wish it was different but it's not. I wasn't playing hero. I was putting all the training you gave me, and I was holding my own." He steeled himself, and moved into a sitting position, because he couldn't have this conversation with his father when he was lying on his stomach.
"Rose shouldn't even have been out there, Dad, and you know it. Neither should a lot of people. I'm more qualified than some of them, and I'm sorry you're upset, but I'm not sorry I did it." He could have mentioned the number of times his father had put them through this very thing, but he didn't. It wasn't the time or place, and if he wanted to be treated like an adult he couldn't act like a child.
