Memos from Hermione to many people
Who: Hermione, Alastor, Astoria, Bill, Charlie, Felix, James, Marlene, Pansy, Patrick, Regulus, Ron, Severus, Stephen, Ted, all hit wizards, aurors and unspeakable, Ministry employees
Where: the Ministry
When: 6:45am 16 October, 2025
Summary: Hermione needs a new government Stat

Hermione knew that she'd never be Minister. Oh maybe in another thirty years people would finally consider the possibility of a Muggleborn as Minister, but certianly not now, not even in the face of what had happened. However that didn't mean that she would pull back or do nothing. Until there was a legal Minister, she would be there to rule and she'd put people in place that would make the right choices based on what was right and not on who was involved. That brought her to the Ministry bright and early on Saturday morning, making arrangements.

Meeting with James and Alastor

James groaned when the owl woke him up before the sun was up. He had divided his time between fixing things at the Ministry and Sirius. They had finally kicked him out of St. Mungo's last at night where he planned to return, except it would have to wait until after this meeting.

When he got there, he saw Alastor and snorted. "I see you're getting the same amount of sleep I am. How's Marlene doing?" he asked, knowing that she'd been hit worse than Sirius, but it couldn't be that bad if Alastor was here.

"Should we see what she wants now that she's in charge?" he asked with a grin, before knocking on the door. The answer was immediate and they entered the room.

Alastor's first impulse on reading the note from Hermione was to burn it. He was still keeping tabs on the fighting forces, but he could get reports at the castle and the castle was where Marlene was.

Luckily for one Hermione Granger, he was too bound by his own code of honour to do that, which was how he wound up standing outside her door when Jamie showed up. "Clearly your aunt didn't get my memo with how I intended to spend the day today," he huffed in dry amusement at the younger man's greeting. "Marlene is alive and stable which is more than can be said for a lot of people. Sirius?"

Chuckling, he waved his hand for Jamie to go first. "After you." Nodding his greeting as they entered the office Hermione had settled into, he took up his customary position near a wall where he could see the doors and windows. "You wanted to see us?"

Hermione was already preparing jobs, titles, decrees approving her nominations. She liked to be prepared and she wasn't about to take no for an answer, but she had to start with these two and then Snape, but she had a feeling that the last one would prove easier.

"Jamie, Moody. I heard about Marlene and Sirius. I'm glad that they are doing better." She gestured toward the two chair. "Please, make yourselves comfortable." She was certain that they'd never hear those words in this office again.

"I'm sorry to ask you here so early, but we need to keep things moving. We have no employees, no heads, no law enforcement and two towns shut down, and before anything else can get back to normal, we need the MLE up and running and people aware of what's going on. That's where you come in," she said. "Jamie, no one knows the press like you do. I've named you Secretary of State for the Office of Media and Communications. Start getting in touch with people, get press releases out, both domestically and internationally, tell the story of the three great men that killed Riddle, organise interviews with those who saw, talk about the government inside Hogwarts. I want everyone to know that that is the healthy part of society."

She turned to Moody. "You get the dubious job of Head of the MLE. I'm going to ask Ron to head the MLE Patrol. He knows the people better than you. I want to put Marlene in charge of the Division. We'll see about the Hit Wizards. I want to ask Regulus to be in charge of the Wizengamot. We need all the former heads, law enforcement and employees cleared. We need to determine who helped and who didn't, and we need to do it quickly."

Alastor shook his head, declining the chair. It was business, after all. He couldn't helping the quiet snort as she summed up the situation they were all aware of quite well. They'd won the fight. But there was still a lot of work to be done before they had their world back.

The request she made of Jamie didn't surprise him. But, when she got around to him, he could only blame his reaction on the effects of worry and exhaustion. His jaw literally dropped. "Someone must have hit you over the head very hard yesterday," he muttered. He'd been expecting something like a request to head the Division. It was what he was -- an Auror. With Potter dead, they'd need someone to fill that position and he was a natural choice after all this, especially given Albus' machinations at the beginning of the summer to have him instated as Head of the Patrol.

But overall Head of the MLE? Head injury or pain potions had to be affecting that choice. Alastor Moody in a position that required polite interaction? Even the idea of someone as young as Black taking over the Wizengamot didn't seem as far-fetched as Alastor as a Department Head.

And Marlene for the Division? That could only lead to problems for them them.

"Marlene is down for a few days at least, whether she likes it or not. She was caught up in the explosion that took out half of that unit."

"My head was blow free, thankfully, and really if you plan to stay Head after I'm gone, I suggest that you start learning how to talk to the Minister. Or you can have Jamie talk for you. It worked really well," she said.

She looked at the other man. "You know everything that there is to know about the past few months. I bet you know more than even I do. You know the strengths and weaknesses of the men we have, and you also have an interest in arresting the people who escaped and anyone that might have helped them. I don't even have people qualified for the wizengamot at the moment, and I'm considering a twenty year old spoilt brat as Chief. So, we can waste time before you say yes, or you can start working."

Hermione nodded. "I know, but then people are used to report to you, don't they? You can do her job for the next few days."

That earned her another snort. As if he had any plans to stay in politics any longer than he had no choice. "Lucky for me I don't plan to, then."

But, he couldn't deny she had a point about what he knew. She likely didn't want to know what he and the others knew that she didn't. Sighing, he shook his head. Somewhere on the other side he could imagine a meddling old wizard laughing his arse off. "I suppose as I haven't actually stopped working yet, I might as well play nice a while longer," he said with a slight smirk. He'd assumed there'd be work to do, in any case.

"I'll be working from Hogwarts until Marlene's on her feet," he added. "I'll check in here each afternoon for daily reports. But anything urgent can find me there. It'll help to keep her apprised of what's going on as well." And it would give her something to do that might hopefully keep her in bed long enough to heal properly.

"That's very nice, except that your people will be reporting at 11:00 and there is no one to report to unless you are here," she said, with a smile. "I'm not going to ask you to stay here, but you will need to supervise their return to work."

She looked at the two of them. "I know your father told you about what we did in '98. Have you shared the information?" he asked Jamie.

Jamie nodded. "Alastor knows and so does Severus. I haven't shared the ritual."

Hermione nodded. "Good, Harry never told us either. However, we have the Horcruxes to find, and I'm sure there are others. I'll let Ron know, but Marlene will have to know as well. Also, I've sent a letter to Nott although I'm not even sure why. I do know that you people went to great lengths to keep him out of this fight, so what don't I know?"

Alastor raised an eyebrow. "They'll be taken care of," he said, non-committally. He wasn't going to leave the Divisions in the lurch, but Alastor Moody was perfectly capable of handling this on his own terms.

He bit back a second sigh as conversation turned to the Horcruxes. He'd thought of those the day before and decided they had time. They had more immediate concerns, at least.

Including the one Hermione obliquely touched on at the mention of Stephen.

"Stephen's been working on the next crisis while we finished up this one," he acknowledged, after all, this was going to be the Minister's headache now and she was the one filling that spot at the moment. "Possibly something that will take a longer meeting than I think you intend for this to be. Essentially, there was more to the attack on King's Cross that could have international ramifications. Call it the wizarding world's answer to the muggles' bio-warfare. In the interest of time, I'd recommend getting people into place and then we can get the right heads together in a room so we only have to tell this story once."

Hermione's expression didn't change, although she almost felt sorry for whoever came after her, because dealing with Moody on a permanent basis would require a lot of patience.

"Mr. Moody, in politics expedience isn't always the answer. In fact, politics are the opposite of efficiency, but this bureaucratic lag is what gives us democracy. I understand that it's possibly the opposite of everything a military person likes, but you'll still have to tell me before we get people in place," she said.

Jamie snorted at the answer, because he knew how politics worked, and he knew how Alastor worked even better. "The short answer is that Voldemort released an unknown hex. It looks like the contamination time is about two months, a bit less than that, but there's the potential that everyone is exposed. You might as well get all the details from Stephen and then get some sort of ad hoc division within the health office to deal with this. I'm not sure you'd want St. Mungo's involved, because it'd be a matter of time before it gets leaked." He looked at Alastor. "Have I forgot anything? And please never, ever talk to the press about anything before talking to me. Ever. Even if they ask you how you're doing, you talk to me first."

Alastor bit his tongue, hard, to keep from arguing with her. Expediency might not be the answer in politics, but it made no sense for him to go into detail Stephen could explain better when they had people in place to deal with it. Bureaucratic lag may be what gave them democracy, but there were reasons Alastor had never been a bureaucrat.

Lack of patience came prominently to mind.

"That about covers the highlights," he agreed, once Jamie had essentially given the same information he did, only using more words. Alastor did laugh at the warning that followed, however. "Don't think I'm not taking advantage of the suggestion to let you do my talking for me. I think you already know my feelings on talking to the press."

God, he was going to be stuck behind a desk...again. Even after all that had happened, he couldn't be happy about that idea. Just when he thought he'd gotten through all the hassles of that sort of position.

"I see that you two will do just fine together," Hermione said. Once again, she felt sorry for the person coming after her.

"All right, this should suffice for now. Start working, and I'll talk to you soon. I expect to be kept appraised of what's going on, gentlemen. Good day."

Bill/Hermione

Bill was surprised when he received the summons, but pushed himself out of bed anyway. His leg still hurt, but he was not sorry to have left the hospital against the healers recommendations. The gash was apparently worse than he'd first thought, the slashing hex that had caused it was dark and it would take time to heal properly. Bill didn't see how that would change by him being in a bed, but took the pain potions asked of him and his broom to avoid the stairs.

He supposed he needed to go home, but the thought of the house without Fleur was more than he wanted to think of. Luckily, right now, he had a perfectly valid excuse to not think about it. He arrived at the Ministry right on time, transfigured his broom into a walking stick and made his way up to Hermione's office.

He smiled as he was allowed in. "Should I call you Minister for real now?" he asked. "Being in charge suits you. Now what do you want with me? I'm assuming it's not to have me say congratulations."

Hermione got up when she saw Bill there. "You can call me overworked. I don't even have a secretary, just security. They really don't run things the way they used to," she teased.

He led him to the couch. "Come, sit. I promise not to keep you long, although I can't promise that you'll get much rest either." She joined him on the couch. "I'm here just temporarily. They'll never let a Muggleborn have the job. I know politics well enough to know that, but I can put the best people in place so we have a fair government. I want you as Head of the Department of Mystery. That will give you a place in the Minister's cabinet and the Wizengamot, and you can supervise all the new discoveries going out to the public. You know how to deal with the unexpected and experimental. You are qualified and I trust you. So I need you to agree with me and come to work starting tomorrow morning, and yes I know it's Sunday."

The words she spoke made perfect sense, and yet Bill found himself staring at Hermione as if she'd spoken in some foreign language he'd never heard of. For a while, he said nothing, and maybe it was a strange that his first thought was 'crap, I can't wear jeans to this job' but it was the only thing that actually went through his mind at first.

Only after did his brain catch up to what she was actually saying. "You want me to become the head of the Department of Mysteries?" he asked, just to make sure, but as insane as it seemed to him to make him a politician, the option of saying no wasn't something that entered his mind.

"How could I say no?" he said, before smiling. "You'll know I'll always do what is necessary. If you need me to head the Department of Mysteries, I will," he said. "Just don't expect me to turn into a politician in a night," he added with a smile. Wearing robes every day would be enough of a change.

Hermione nodded. "I can't promise that these positions will be permanent, but I don't think any of us want guarantees or we wouldn't have fought for so long. I'm hoping that when they see what I great job you can do, they won't be able to kick you out."

She gave him a quick, one arm hug. "That's great, Bill, and I don't expect you to do anything that you can't do. Now, I'll just have to convince your brothers to take a few positions of their own, and we have a government."

Bill laughed. "You're assuming I actually want it," he said. "I'm doing this for you, Hermione, and because it needs to be done. We'll see if it grows on me or not." He certainly hadn't liked being head of security at Gringotts at first, it had taken some getting used to.

He smiled and returned the hug. "Good luck. Sounds like you'll have a busy day. I'm sure you can convince them. It seems I need to go and check on my robes-supply," he added with a laugh. "I'll see you tomorrow." He got up, and even as he left, he wasn't sure how he'd ended up becoming a head of a Department in the Ministry.

Ron was not in the mood to be going to work, he still felt a little light headed, but the cut he'd gotten the day before had been healed and he'd gotten blood replenishing potion eventually the day before. He'd live - even if he thought he was most definitely owed a very long vacation after all of this. At the very least he wanted to be with Rose and Hugo, but there wasn't much he could do for either of them at the moment, and so he left them both in the Healer's capable hands.

"One of these days I am going to find a way to make you stop working." He muttered to Hermione when he arrived and found her, looking like she'd been working non-stop since the end of the battle the day before. "And when I do we're leaving the country." He threatened.

He sat though, not feeling up to long periods on his feet just yet. He'd be fine in a day or two, but he didn't feel the need to wait for an invitation from Hermione to sit. "So what are we doing?"

Hermione grinned. "I thought you found it already. We do have two children so I'm sure that I must have stopped at least on two occasions." She got up from her desk and went around to kiss him. "You look horrible, and it has nothing to do with your cut. You haven't been working enough and I'm about to help you with that."

She let go so he could sit and then sat next to him. "I've been thinking. We have no aurors or hit wizards except for the few at Hogwarts. However, you've been training a lot of civilians and before Riddle took over there were preparations to rebuild the old Magical Law Enforcement Patrol. I want you to head it, starting possibly tomorrow. You can get the people you were training, put them on the streets. We need to make sure that Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade are safe before reopening them to the public. Life can't start before we do that, and you are great with people."

"So I have to knock you up again if I want you to stop working?" Ron asked arching an eyebrow at Hermione, as much as he might have liked Hermione to take a break from all of this Ron wasn't really interested in more children. "I'll come up with something a bit different this time." He assured her, returning the kiss she gave him.

"You think you're funny don't you?" He shook his head when she told him he looked bad. Only Hermione would suggest that lack of work would be bad for you. "Pretty sure we've been working nonstop for the last few months." He reminded her. "But please, tell me how you're going to fix this apparent problem of mine."

He took her hand when she sat wit him, lacing his fingers with hers, thumb stroking idly across the back of her hand. Well that was interesting, Ron cocked his head while he listened to what Hermione wanted from him. "I'm not sure everyone we were training is going to be interested in something like this, most people are just going to want a break from everything." But Hermione was right about the distinct lack of Aurors and Hit Wizards they were going to be dealing with now, they would need something for the interim.

"Or you have to stop me to knock me up," she answered with a grin. "We can find some other way to stop, except not now. We have a job to do, and we only have three hundred people that fought with us, and not all of them can help."

Hermione smiled, because she knew she was being ridiculous. "We've always worked, Ron. We fought a war and you left school to clean up the streets. We haven't stopped and we won't now."

She nodded. "I know. In fact most people won't want to, because they are tired, but they know you. You can convince them. You can show them why it's so important that they join. They'll respect you more than they would a politician."

"I thought I had." Ron grinned in reply, before he sighed and nodded. "I know we can't, it's a nice thought though." Even just for a night, real rest for the two of them, together without the threat of death or the collapse of the wizarding world hanging over their heads - Ron didn't think that should have been so hard to find.

"It's a nice thought though." Maybe when they were old, that would be when they could both stop, leave the hard work for someone else.

He sighed. "You're making me sound like Harry." He knew what she meant though, Ron was never going to be a politician, not the way Jamie so obviously was, or Percy even. He liked his old job, he liked being a part of a team, and helping people, he liked that he didn't have to play the games that others in the Ministry did. But did that really mean he could rally people who would much rather spend their times with their families, people who would want to start putting their lives back together? Hermione had always had more faith in him than he'd ever had in himself though.

Hermione laughed. "How about that you can try and seduce me? I'll even let you take me out to a club? Possibly without the security Narcissa Malfoy had, because that's not sexy."

She nodded. "It is nice, and next weekend, we can go out to dinner. How's that? Just the two of us."

She smiled, because she couldn't have planned it better. "None of us are Harry, but you are very much like him. You also have something he didn't have. You understand wizarding society in a way he and I never have. You can get them to help us and our society. I have faith in you."

"I like the sound of that." It sounded so normal Ron couldn't even imagine a better suggestion right then. He needed more normal in his life at this point.

Ron seriously doubted he was very very much like Harry, but he let Hermione make her point. "You always did believe in me too much." He sighed. "I'll see what I can do though." He assured her, he didn't know if he'd have quite the effect she thought he would, but he'd do his best.

Charlie had never liked going to the Ministry, it was too closed in, too many desks, not nearly enough windows, and he always felt like someone was going to give him paperwork or something whenever he came in - which was stupid, but still his mind told him it was a valid concern. He wanted to be back at Hogwarts - back with the dragons making sure things were all right, and Callum. God he wasn't even going to start thinking about that here of all places.

"Still in one piece, I see." He greeted Hermione with a small smile and a quirk of an eyebrow before he hugged her, acting Minister or not she was family after all. "How's Ron doing? Hugo and Rose?" Charlie's main concern the day before had been the dragons and his keepers. He hadn't had much time for checking up on his family with everything else he needed to make sure got taken care of.

"Yes, I am." She returned the hug. "Ron just left. Hugo and Rose are still at Hogwarts. Rose is unconscious, but the Healers are hopeful." She tried not to think about that. She had a job to do and sitting around an infirmary, fretting, wouldn't help anyone.

"How are you and Callum doing?" She still had no idea what that was all about, but she was polite and asked, even though she had seen the list of names with all the injured. "You did an amazing job with Azkaban and those dragons, but I'm sure you know that we can't exactly leave them there. However, there are rules about dragons, and we have no regulations about the current situation. We also have no Head of the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, so nothing can happen until a head is named, someone who would know what to do with those dragons, for example. Say... someone like you, at least until things are back to normal? You could decide what to do with them."

He didn't like thinking about any of the family hurt after the fight, he imagined it must hit especially hard for Ron and Hermione, they being the the one part of the family that had remained intact through everything. He made a mental note to check on Rose and Hugo when he got a chance though. "I'm sure the healers are doing everything they can." He said after a moment.

Charlie shrugged and nodded. "I'm fine, Callum made it through fine as well - his son had a bit of trouble though." But they'd had a job to do - though he could guess what Callum was doing in their down time.

"Happy to help." He assured Hermione. The dragons had been helpful at Azkaban as well, and it gave Charlie something to focus on after the fighting had finished. "No, as comfortable as camp has been over the last few months Hogwarts really isn't the place for those dragons." Charlie sighed, this was where they sent them back, or talking about it or something. He gave Hermione a doubtful look when she continued though, he could see the end of this before she got there, but Charlie didn't actually believe Hermione would suggest such a thing until he actually heard the words come out of her mouth. "Wait ... you're asking me to be a Department Head? You do know that the only experience I've ever had is with dragons right?" He paused. "And I'm pretty sure I'm allergic to paperwork."

"I know they are. I trust them, but I'm not the type that can stand around doing nothing. It's just... not me. It's rather pointless to ignore them with questions," she pointed out.

She tried not to react at the answer, but it was hard. It was one thing to mention a lover, but when you mentioned said lover's children, then things had reached another level. "I wasn't aware that things had gotten so serious between you two."

Hermione ignored the look and nodded. "The Centaurs never use the office. You can ask Bill for help with the Goblins, and he's agreed to be Head of the Department of Mystery, so you'll see him daily. Ron is in charge of the MLE patrol and Jamie is in charged of Media and Communications. As soon as I can clear Percy and Audrey is better, we can put them to work too. So it'll be like being home, and you can have a secretary for the paperwork."

Charlie nodded, he understood that inability to just wait around for answers - he'd always preferred action to down time and he could sympathize with Hermione's need to keep busy.

He wasn't sure how to react to Hermione's response when he'd answered her about Callum, he didn't know what part of his answer had made her assume things had gotten serious. "They're not, serious, I mean." Charlie shrugged, he didn't really know what they were, that conversation still put on hold, especially now.

"You're putting our family in charge of everything?" He wondered, that seemed a bit ... surreal to say the very least. Bill he could see as a Department Head, and Ron he'd been MLE for years now so there was nothing surprising about that. Charlie was just the odd man out in this case. "Look I get that we need bodies in office Hermione, but I am not cut out for this, secretary or not." Gods who would ever think that someone would be offering Charlie a secretary at some point in his life. "I work with dragons, I know how to run a reserve, how to train keepers - I don't know the first thing about politics. I wouldn't even know where to begin to do what you're asking me."

"They aren't?" she asked with a frown. "Charlie, I just asked about Callum and you answered about his son. If that's not serious, I'm not sure what is, but don't worry. I won't tell anyone."

Hermione shrugged. "I'm putting the best people in charge. I have three hundred people that were with us. Only a small part of those were members of the Order. I have to have people I can trust. I don't expect things to last forever, but until we have a permanent administration, I need people I can trust."

She smiled. "It's not just bodies, Charlie. I need to find a solution to six dragons without getting anyone in trouble. With no wizengamot, the decrees have to be passed by the Head. The Head can pass decrees that make sure that the people who stole those dragons don't go to jail. He can also find a long term solution for those dragons. Are you really going to turn me down, risk that you and Callum get arrested and those dragons put down because there's no place to put them? You can fix this."

"You asked how he was, Baron affects that." Charlie tried to reason, it had made sense when he'd said it - though maybe Hermione was right. This was not the time to be having this kind of self realization.

"How long?" Charlie asked, he wasn't considering it of course because there was no way Charlie could handle this kind of a job. But it could take years to settle this and Charlie wasn't getting stuck in something like this for that long.

He frowned when Hermione smiled at him, like she was just looking out for his best interests, but as she continued Charlie opened his mouth to respond and stopped. He was probably gaping at her but he thought that was probably the proper response when your sister-in-law was trying to extort you. "You are an evil woman, has anyone told you that? I cannot believe you're resorting to extortion to make me do this."

"Yes, his family affects him, but the fact that you are thinking about his family-" She trailed off, smiling, and letting him finish.

Hermione shruged. "I don't know. There's no way to come up with a timeline, but I can't imagine that they'd want me around for long."

"Me?" she asked, touching her chest. "I don't know why you'd think that. I'm looking out for you and your boyfriend. I don't think they give conjugal visits at Azkaban. We aren't as civilised as the Muggle world, and it would be even more difficult when both of you are in a cells. Do this, Charlie. Give me the decrees that makes all of this legal, find something to do with these dragons and then you can leave."

Charlie just frowned as Hermione smiled at him. He wasn't going to sit there and start denying things one way or the other, it'd probably only make the situation worse.

He rolled his eyes. "I can't imagine why they wouldn't, you're a damn sight better than anyone they've had in office for a while now. They're lucky to have you." Narcissa might have been a decent Minister, but Charlie didn't doubt that Hermione could do better. Even if she was trying to put him of all people into office.

"Yes you, you might fool my brothers but I know better." He said shaking his head at her, not fooled in the slightest by her innocent act. He sighed though, because she was right - he could make everything they had done okay, he could make sure they had their dragons and that he and Callum, and any of the kids who wanted it could have jobs, and fuck. "You'd better give me the best secretary in the world." He warned her after a moment as he gave in, he might be stubborn, but Charlie knew when he was fighting a losing battle.

"Because I'm a Muggleborn, Charlie. I'm first one to even make Head, and they didn't even like that," she said. "I'm not saying that it will never happen, but it's too soon after a war. It would cause too many problems."

She grinned. "I knew you'd see it my way." She hugged him quickly. "Come back tomorrow, and I'll have what you need. In the mean time, go home and start making plans for what you want done, and then we'll get younger generations to write it in a way that sounds legal and formal, okay?"

Charlie shook his head, this was why he stayed out of politics, he'd never be able to keep his opinions to himself. "That's just stupid." He preferred working on a reserve where people didn't care who you were, so long as you did the job, so long as you cared for the dragons.

He rolled his eyes as Hermione hugged him again. "Please you used coercion, that's not the same as seeing things your way." He informed her, though he was still grinning as he spoke. "I'll be in when I can." He assured here, there were still dragons to look over after all. And then he'd have to talk to Callum about his new position.

Snape Incendioed the blasted memo on the spot. The bloody nerve of that jumped-up little cow! It's not as though I don't have more important things - like Al in hospital and Hogwarts in shambles - to take up all my time!

But the thought of Hermione somehow solidifying a permanent grip on the job, simply because everyone else was too busy to pay attention to her in the aftermath, was terrifying enough to prize him away from Al and the school both, and drag him if not kicking and screaming then certainly striding and scowling into her office at the appointed time.

And Salazar help the officious bint if she failed to keep her own damn appointment.

Hermione was going down through her list of appointments when security told her that Snape was here. He looked as cheerful as he had in school. She hadn't been afraid of him as a student and was even less intimidated now.

"Professor, good of you to come," she said, politely. "I was hoping to speak to you about the school. We'll need a time line for the school. We need to figure out how long Durmstrang will have our students. Also, as soon as Mrs. Nott is better, I plan to give her her husband spot on the Board and naming her Head. Astoria Malfoy will be taking over Education. I expect the school to return to its usual rules, including the lack of spouses, friends or visitors. We will still keep an Auror presence for any possible returnees. If you have any additional concerns, Bill is taking over the Department of Mysteries and Moody is in charge of the MLE."

Snape inclined his head in mute acknowlegement of her first words, and when she fell silent, he replied, "Thank you for keeping me informed. As for a timeline, I'm sure you can appreciate that there is still a great deal of work to be done. From what I've seen so far, I doubt Hogwarts could reopen before mid to late November, at the earliest; I'll send a more detailed timeline as soon as I have firm estimates myself."

He sighed. "While I'd like to reopen as soon as possible, I doubt that doing so right before exams would make sense."

Hermione sighed. "As much as I'd like to disagree, I think you're right. That doesn't mean that I like having the children so far away."

She thought for a moment. "I don't know how willing Durmstrang will be to deal with more politicians after what happened with Riddle. I'll make sure that Mrs. Malfoy makes contact with them, but perhaps later on, you can contact them and make sure that their curriculum is to your liking so that there isn't much disruption when they return from the holidays. Of course, if you encounter any problems, you'll have to full support of the Ministry. Just let us know and we'll make sure to provide the right pressure so that you get what you want."

Snape nodded slightly. "I shall certainly have a few timely words with my colleagues across the pond." he confirmed smoothly.

It was a disturbingly good idea; but then, a lack of intelligence had never been among her faults. Though he personally felt a certain level of sympathy with Durmstrang's curriculum, he knew their approach would not be well-received in the UK, especially not with the fallout of Riddle's regime so fresh in everyone's minds.

"If an issue with them arises," his tone conveyed how unlikely he thought such an even would be, "it is most gratifying to know I'll have Ministerial backing." And it actually wasn't said with sarcasm. Fighting a war was very good for reinforcing the difficult lesson that allies - annoying though they almost always were - were also often useful.

"If there was nothing else, Madam Weasley," he murmured, "I'll see myself out. Unfortunately, time and repairs to the castle wait for no man."

Hermione smiled. "I never doubted your ability to do so."

She chuckled. "Trust me, I'd rather not have any issue arise. We'll be cleaning up after Riddle for years to come in the international arena. Anything that smooths things over is appreciated.

"Granger," she corrected him. "I'm not married and never took Ron's name, when I was, and yes, we're done." She waited a moment and then spoke up. "Al is like a son to us. All of Harry's children are. We might not be there, but we love them. Let us know if anything changes with him."

He snorted dryly. "Believe me, after recent events, I'm as eager as anyone for a chance at a more peaceful life."

He winced at the faux-pas; clearly the tiredness was starting to catch up to him. "I do apologise, Ms. Granger. As for Al, I'll be sure to send word of any change in his condition."
