Summary: Another last minute conversation

They might have had the rest of the day off after Jamie's speech at lunch, but there was still plenty to go over. This wasn't like when they were kids, when they rushed in and just hoped for the best like the idiots that they were, there was planning going into this, they had teams and strategies and they could make this work. Ron was sure of that. It didn't stop him from being a little apprehensive about the next day's plans though.

He'd made sure to talk to his brothers, even catching Charlie for a few minutes before his brother could sneak back to his dragons the way he surely wanted. At the end of the day though Ron was glad that he could retreat to his rooms with Hermione.

"Never thought we'd end up here again when we were younger." He shook his head a slight grin pulling at his lips. "Kind of crazy thinking about it." There were differences this time of course, made all the more apparent because they weren't going into this as a trio - Harry should have been there with them.

Hermione smiled a little. "No, I didn't think we would, but I'm glad we're doing this. The longer we stay, the worse it gets. It sounds absurd, but we're too well organised. People will forget why we're even fighting, what's like to be outside. In a way it was better when it was just the three of us. We knew what we had to do."

She sighed. "I wish we didn't have so much family involved, but then we always were involved. No way to get around that."

Ron nodded. "I think everyone will be glad when this is over." Even if tonight was going to be fraught with worry for many. They needed this to be finished - Hermione was right, they had been trained too well and it was easy to forget what they were fighting against when they couldn't see the big picture. "It was scarier then though." Ron admitted with a huffed laugh. "I just knew we were going to die then." Well maybe not Harry, he'd always seemed above all of this, like nothing could ever happen to him, of course that idea had come crashing down.

"They'll be all right." Ron nodded, it was the great hazard of having such a large family in times like this, they couldn't escape without some kind of injury or loss. It wasn't fair and it hurt every time, but they had to do this. "We all will." It was really the only thing Ron could let himself think about the upcoming battle, they would all be fine, they would make it through this.

Hermione chuckled. "Scarier and with a lot less food. I didn't have to get creative this time." She looked at Ron. "I don't know, though. It was scarier but not. The last time, we could have died. It was a risk I was willing to take. Now I'm terrified that it won't be us dying, but Rose. Hugo will be safe, but I worry about her."

She wished that she had Ron's optimism, but she was the pragmatic one. "I'll believe you for now." They could worry about the injuries after they were done.

"Thank goodness for that." Ron chuckled, remembering just how ridiculous he'd been about all of that. Things weren't nearly as bad this time around in so many different ways. The food being just one of them.

He did nod though when Hermione mentioned Rose, he worried for his daughter as well, but he told himself over and over that she would be fine. "We've trained for this." He reminded Hermione. "She's been to the classes, she knows what to do." Maybe not as well as some of the others, but Ron told himself that Rose had a basic understanding of the spells she'd need to know for tomorrow.

Ron had to tell himself it would all be okay, he didn't doubt that Hermione was going through all the possible outcomes for the next day, all the ways their plans could go wrong - it was what she did, but he was the one who focused on how well things could turn out. "You should do that more often, I know what I'm talking about." He said trying for a small bit of levity.

"Oh stop it. We both know that the food was the one thing that you minded. Even more than the cold and the fighting," she said, laughing. "You were a bottomless pit. It's good you stopped or with your ageing metabolism, you'd be huge."

She shook her head. "We are trained, she... she doesn't believe in this. She doesn't seem to understand the importance of fighting and killing and winning. It's so abstract for her. She hates the rules and the people enforcing them, because she doesn't understand."

"What? Listen to you? I'm still here after thirty-four years. I must be paying some attention to you," she said, chuckling.

"I was a growing boy. I can't help how much I ate." Ron protested with a laugh. "I'd still be handsome though." He grinned at Hermione's teasing.

"We'll keep an eye out for her tomorrow." Ron told Hermione. It was stupid, to do things like that, it was a distraction that wouldn't help anyone - but he understood the worry Hermione felt for Rose and he wanted her to be safe too. "She wants to be with Bryn, she's not just going to throw that away tomorrow." It wasn't much but it was enough to hope that Rose wouldn't act stupidly.

"Maybe pay a bit more attention in the future." He grinned, kissing Hermione after a moment. "I'm very smart after all."

"It's how much you complained that you could have helped," she answered, laughing. "You are and would still be gorgeous. Most handsome boy and man around. Every woman inside the castle is waiting for me to turn around so they can steal you from me. I live in desperate fear that you will abandon me when some twenty something with boobs spelt to fight gravity will rub herself against you."

Hermione nodded. "There is that. It's the only thing that's keeping me from asking Jamie to keep her out of this battle."

She tilted her head. "Really? I always pay attention. How can I point out all the flows in your reasoning if I don't?" She put her arms around him and kissed his cheek. "You are smart."

"Maybe." Ron agreed, though his teenage self had not been quite so sure about that. He chuckled when she continued shaking his head as she laughed. "If I didn't know any better I'd say you were making fun of me, it would serve you right if some twenty something with great boobs did rub herself on me." Though what the hell he would do with a girl like that Ron didn't even have a clue.

Ron nodded, keeping her out of the battle was probably the better idea, but they really did need as many people helping out as possible in this. "She'll be all right."

"Since when do I have flaws in my reasoning?" He huffed, though he grinned knowing Hermione was just teasing him, this was good - something light before everything went down tomorrow. Just a chance for the two of them to be together. "I'm brilliant."

"Me? I'd never make fun of you." She looked down and cupped her breasts. "They aren't that bad for a woman my age, but feel free to find this twenty something. You are a free man after all."

Hermione stopped discussing Rose. There was nothing that they could do, but pray and hope. "You? Brilliant? That would be me, in case you have forgot." She played with his hair as they talked. "We should make sure that Hugo is all right and get some sleep. We can discuss girls and boobs tomorrow night, okay?"

"Of course you wouldn't." Ron replied doubtfully. He couldn't help the way his eyes drifted south when Hermione's hands rose to her chest. Gods he was so not interested in a twenty something.

"There has never been any doubt about your brilliance even once in my entire life." He assured Hermione grinning when she played with his hair, he'd needed this. "Maybe we skip the discussion of girls and just talk about boobs tomorrow night." Ron suggested with a grin and an arch of an eyebrow.
