Moving the cushion from the end of the chaise, Lilith sat, then glanced at the window. "It's lovely," she agreed. "Even when it's misty, you can see the green outside. The snow will come soon enough, though, and then it will all look the same."
She smiled again. "I'm warm," she told him, then laid a hand on her stomach. "More often too warm, but the books say it's normal, even as out-of-date as most of them are." She gestured toward the few she'd been given by the guards and whomever authorised such things.
There was silence for a moment but it wasn't awkward and chilly like with Jamie, or confusing like it had been with Rose. It was warm, and oddly comfortable. Her fingers caught a fold of her robes and worried it for a moment. He'd been her friend once, this kind man. Taught her Defense, and eaten cake with her, and answered every silly question she asked him, never acting as though they were silly at all.
"I'm glad you came." She fidgeted another moment, then stood and walked to the window. "I've thought about you, sometimes. In the garden. I could almost smell the earth..."
