NOTE: Cassandra to Regulus Who: Cassandra Urquhart and Regulus Black Where: Respective Locations When: Tuesday, September 14, 2025 Summary: Cassandra isn't sure what the information she has means other than trouble.
Cassandra had been thinking about her tea with Lilith for days. The girl's story had disturbed her, deeply. While Cassandra herself wasn't above using someone to achieve her own ends in business, or one of those neat and tidy little social revenges that were rather entertaining, there were limits before it became unreasonably cruel and inhumane. What had been done to Lily Potter, now Lilith Lestrange, was one such limit that had been shattered.
She had left a good amount of detail from her letter to Belvina, not wanting to risk the other woman. The information she had from Lilith didn't seem to be important on the surface, at least not as it directly related to the actual fighting that would have to be happening somewhere. But, it might be useful in other ways if it could be used safely.
That was the problem, however. She didn't think anything connected to Lilith Lestrange could be deemed safe after hearing her story.
So, she wrote to Regulus. If it was useful, he could put it into the hands of those who could use it. If it wasn't, at least someone would know what happened to her if anyone found out Cassandra knew.
Dear Regulus,
I am uncertain if this information will be useful to you, however, while visiting with Lilith Lestrange over tea this weekend, she revealed some details I believe there are those inside the castle who would wish to know. Perhaps some already do, but as this was new information to me that I do not recall ever being published when she first went missing or was captured by her father, I thought it best to pass it on.
During the course of the conversation, the subject of her pregnancy and motherhood came up, quite naturally. It was then she began to speak of her memories and her family, the Potters not the Lestranges. What followed was disjointed and in pieces and I am writing it here as closely as I could piece it together.
Lilith believes she was put under a spell, a compulsion spell of some sort is my guess given the effects, before she disappeared from the school last winter. She described it as a spell to make her do things and to provide her mind with lies to justify her actions. Though she never named him, the way she spoke, I believe she meant the Dark Lord himself had placed the spell. No one else is referred to with such fear and reverence one can hear the capital H in 'He' and 'Him'.
Furthermore, she confided that she continues to have trouble with her memories, distinguish the true from the fabrications. As such, she fears they intend to kill her once the baby is born and does not know if it is something they said or something she imagined. I am not sure if this spell is still affecting her, if thy reinforce it as it seems to fade, which is what causes her to have these lapses, or if the story is even true. But, while it is possible she is a very fine actress, I'm inclined to believe the very scared, confused child who confided her fears in me to be genuine. I think she may even have tried to warn me against bringing myself to the attention of her husband and his associates before the confessions began.
However, I also believe she is very unstable. I don't doubt it would be an easy thing for anyone trying to find out she told me of these things, which is another part of why I am writing you. I do not know what would happen if she spoke of confiding in me to anyone and someone should know why if I disappear. I have also taken the precaution of giving Dorcas instructions to seek you and Belvina out at Hogwarts should anything happen, thereby eliminating the possibility they could try to learn from her anything she might have seen while delivering my messages to you.
I do not think I am truly in any danger at the moment. But, I feel it better to take the precautions now and hope they do not become necessary than to wait until the last moment.
