"If it helps you figure things out, then fling away," Stephen said calmly. "I don't mind talking. I've never minded that. It's been... hard lately. I hated not being able to tell you things, not because I don't trust you, but because I didn't know when someone would read your mind."
He brushed her hair, smiling. "You're smart and full of fire. I see it, not always, but it's there, and your sister was trying to put it out. I wanted to tell you so much more, see your responses, but I couldn't. I would have put both of us in danger."
He leaned closer and kissed her cheek. "For now, we stay here and then get to Hogwarts. Afterwards, by letting that fire out. We'll worry about the rest later."
