"I didn't say I knew better about what the dragons need. You are used to the reservation life and you went by choice. If I would have known that it would be a lockdown, I would have said no. The people have to matter." He had said something like that to Jamie once. It was almost laughable that it was coming up again.
He rubbed a hand over his face. "It isn't that simple. Yes, I want to spend more time with Lori, but he needs me. I love him. I'm here because I want there to be a future for us and then sometimes I forget why we are even here. He's my family now." It was far from just wanting time, he needed to reconnect. Charlie was from a reservation, probably preferring dragons to people.
"Every time I go there, I see all the others who get to see each other. They share the same bed, meals, all of it. I would love for them to try this. They really don't get it. They have a club even. The piano doesn't quite do it. People move around here and they don't complain because the answer is the same, but I bet if you asked, they would love a few hours, doesn't even have to be a whole day." When Lori used to come down, Scorpius had never taken time off of work. He had breaks that had allowed him those minutes.
He sighed, knowing that one visit wasn't really going to do. "Everyone needs those visits. I'm not asking to make myself special or anything else. There are others here who would love the same thing. Who knows how long this will go on? Again, we don't come from a reservation, but from regular lives, if you want to call it that."
He knew what it was going to come down to and more than likely, he would owl Jamie again and let himself be replaced. "I do love this job and I respect the hell out of these creatures, and flying on one is nothing that I have ever done before. Still, I love him more, and watching him hurt with absolutely no outlet, I can't do that anymore."
