Summary: Stephen sends more news about the trophy
Alastor,
As I promised, I have news about the trophy. First, it has stopped working. There's no trace of any magic. I was working on it, and there was a short burst of magic and then it went dead. I'm keeping it under strict containing spells just in case, but I am relatively certain that the curse has ended. I have acquired enough information that I can still work on it without the trophy.
The hex itself seems a strange one. It looks like it could spread both by touch and by proximity. Considering the length of the hex on the trophy, I am assuming that the contamination period is a very long one, and it could possibly still be going on. Given that, we are looking at a possible pandemic. Any wizard and witch in the UK could be affected, and they could be spreading it everytime they travel outside of the country. Considering all the people that are currently travelling, we might look at a world wide infection. I'm still not sure what the effects of this infection are.
I'm not in a position of stopping travel, but is there anyone in the government that we can trust? Anyone that perhaps can let it be known to foreign politicians? You could always do another one of those WWN announcement, but I'm not sure that widespread panic is what we want.
There's also something else that I wanted to bring up. Belvina suggested that I learn occlumency. The reasons for her suggestions have little to do with the Order or the trophy and a lot to do with my marriage. I've considered that in the past, but the only person I know that could teach me is my father, and lessons might mean that he finds out what I'm doing. Now, my feeling is that he's not as supportive of this government as he pretends to be. He tried to help Belvina from Rabastan and Greyback. Also, those bastards killed my sister, and I can't imagine him forgetting that any time soon. I'm inclined to think that he wouldn't betray us, but there is no guarantee, and since this involves more than just me, I thought I'd ask.
