NOTE: Cassandra to Belvina
Who: Cassandra Urquhart and Belvina Black
Where: Urquhart Estate to Nott Manor
When: Sunday, 29 August, 2025, first thing in the morning
Summary: Cassandra checks up on Belvina
At first glance, it appeared as if Cassandra had merely written to invite a friend to lunch.
Dear Belvina,
Now that the excitement of Kat's wedding is over, I find myself with a free afternoon and thought perhaps you might wish to join me at the Estate for lunch and maybe a quiet ride over the grounds.
Sincerely,
Cassandra
But, the note was charmed so the words would change once it was in Belvina's hands, reverting back to the innocuous invitation permanently as soon as the other woman let go of the parchment. Dorcas was instructed to give it to Belvina and Belvina only, and only if she was alone. If she could not deliver the note to Belivina within twenty minutes, Dorcas was told to return directly.
Belvina,
You should know I wrote to Professor Black on your behalf last night. I am not sure what, if anything, he is able to do for you from where he is. Still, I know from my sister's talk of him, he would not have stood for their treatment of you the way those who call you family who were present did. It is my hope he, or those he is allied with may be able to provide you with more assistance than those around us seem able to do.
While I understand it is possible you may not have wished him to know, I didn't know what else to do. I wish I could have done something more at the time. What was done to you was unconscionable and I am deeply ashamed of our entire society for condoning it in silence. But, while I couldn't do anything at the wedding without making the situation worse for all of us, I couldn't stand by in silence either.
Please forgive my interference in your affairs and know that it was done out of concern for your well-being. I hope you are well, as well as can be, and if you are in need of anything I might be able to provide, please do not hesitate to contact me. My generation has been raised to believe we can be independent, but must still depend on the men of our society for protection. Clearly that way is not working and we will have to take our protection into our own hands in any way we can.
Sincerely,
Cassandra
