Lilith looked up as the Rabastan returned with Belvina, and smoothed her robes, sitting up a little straighter. It wouldn't do to be slouching, or to be rumpled, not here.
She managed a smile, and after a heartbeat it became more genuine. He was back, he'd keep her from saying something wrong, doing something wrong, with a touch, a look, the tone of his voice in gentle correction.
"Nothing you'd have been sad to miss," she said, reaching for her glass. She was sure he wouldn't have minded missing a whole conversation about children. Her hand detoured from getting her drink and brushed along his sleeve, then his wrist. It was on the tip of her tongue to ask if he'd enjoyed himself, but she bit it back, retrieving her drink instead. Better to keep your mouth shut most of the time.
