Getting up from his table, Theodore moved casually out of the room. As much as he wanted to hurry, he did not, for that would attract unwanted attention and right now that was the last thing he needed.
His heart plummeted however, when he saw through the opening of the tent, Belvina being dragged by her hair across the garden. Even though he by now realised it was already too late, he followed, trying to catch up with them but only in time to see the bedroom door close behind them.
He felt sick to his stomach, because he could only too easily imagine what was going on behind that door, and yet he also knew that any window he'd had for a possible intervention was gone. There was nothing he could do - just like there had been nothing he could do for Charlotte. Taking several deep breaths to compose himself he left, before any screaming began for he was not sure he could remain logical if he heard her scream.
