It had been an incredibly long night, and even hours later Lily was still drained and emotionally exhausted, even if the adrenaline from the fight was still lingering. She'd managed a couple hours of sleep, though they hadn't come easy. James had left early, to help out with the extra patrols, and they were going to meet for breakfast.
The knock on the door surprised her. She couldn't imagine who it could be at this hour, after the night they had. Which meant, she realized as she went to open it, that it couldn't be good news. Preparing herself for the worst, or trying to, she opened the door, stomach plummeting when she saw Alastor.
She stepped aside wordlessly, afraid to ask why he'd come, and wished James was here. "Morning," she said finally, worrying her bottom lip between her teeth. "I'd ask if this was a social visit, but I think I know better."
