Alastor nodded. "Given how we both saw Lupin himself track Greyback's scent when he first came back, I'll give you that it's possible. However, how likely is it the enemy is going to trumpet his death so loudly if there was a chance he could be brought back to prove their accusations false? He's teenager. But, he's already proven he's not completely stupid.
"And, it sounds like something he would do if you recall any of the plans he's already approached us with. Breaking prisoners out of Azkaban, obliviating the Hogsmeade guards. We have informants we can contact to verify the information. But, I think we have to assume the worst case scenario. We have to at least plan as if he was broken by the enemy and killed. The same as we have to assume will happen to Vance." He paused, not cold enough to be completely unaffected by the thought of giving up a friend for lost.
