Alastor & Severus
Alastor was a fighting man at his heart. Front lines, in the field, it was where he was most comfortable. In a way, he'd been spoiling for a fight ever since they locked themselves up in this castle. The mission in Hogsmeade had been one thing. But, pitched battle had his blood singing.
The aftermath, of course, was no where as adrenaline-inducing and even he knew it was better not to have had a fight at all. He'd sent someone to get Sirius as soon as he saw Jamie and his mother. Then, he'd promptly set to work getting the Captains mobilised for a headcount and injured/killed lists. All of security was being kept on duty for the moment until they knew who was still physically able and who the casualties were.
Alastor himself remained on scene, helping with the clean-up and sending a sweeper team to ensure the tunnel was cleared before they blocked it off for good. While he worked, he tried not to think of Vance and what they were or were not going to be able to do. As the reports from Captains and house elves came in, his mood only got worse.
He was going to leave Jamie to his grief for a while. The young man had just lost his mother and needed time to deal with that before he could be asked to lead in the aftermath. But, he needed to speak with Severus and start making plans for tightening security. It didn't take long to find the man and draw him into the nearest empty room.
"Sweeper team's back and the tunnel's clear. We can close it up," he began without preamble. "About half the Captains have completed their headcounts for those assigned under them. Better than I would have suspected. But, we took some serious losses, including Ginny Potter. I left Sirius with Jamie for now. I know you'll want to be with Al once we're done here. But, we should be prepared to handle things the two of us for the next day or so."
