James wanted to stay. He should have stayed, but as much as his mother needed the company, she would have understood the need to take care of his brother. It was something that she had drilled into him since they were little.
"You know Al. He'll never understand if I don't tell him, and Dad... There's something wrong, Sirius. He wasn't there to cast the Patronus, no stag. I would have recognised his Patronus but it wasn't there. I don't know... Let's just go."
He gave his mother a last look, before talking hold of Sirius' hand and drying his tears with the others, he moved toward the door. He cast privacy spells and locked it to make sure that no one could get inside, and finally they walked outside.
They walked downstairs quietly, which was good, because if he started talking again, he was pretty sure that he was going to cry again, and he couldn't afford that, not when he was supposed to be in charge. When they finally got to the Great Hall and it took a while before finding Al. "Hey, there, are you all right?"
