He should top it, pull it together, but admitting that she was dead would mean accepting it, and he didn't want to. He didn't like this feeling of helplessness. There was nothing he could do, nothing he could say that would fix this.
"She's dead... oh God...she's really dead." He brushed her face. He'd never worried about her, never thought that this would happen. She was not the one who would get hurt. How wrong had he been?
He was so good at planning and talking and now he couldn't even figure out how to get up. His entire body seemed fixed in this spot, unable to let her go. "I need to take her-" Where? He had no idea, but he couldn't leave her here on the floor.
