Kat was well aware of the fact that Cassandra never celebrated her birthday. In fact that only reason why she knew this was her birthday was that her mother made a point to keep track of those things - and made sure that she did too.
This year, though, the gift Kat sent was something a lot more exclusive than what she usually sent. She'd spent great effort and time finding the perfect earrings. Rose quartz, because Cassandra's favourite colour was pink. White gold, because she preferred it to yellow gold. Diamonds, because every woman should have diamonds. She wanted the gift to be perfect, because Cassandra had been nothing but brilliant when it came to her upcoming marriage.
In a time when she felt utterly alone, she wanted to know the one friend she still had around knew she was appreciated.
