Charlie just shook his head and finished his coffee setting his mug down beside Callum's a moment later. "It's the birthdays that trip me up these days. I can remember my siblings, but their kids give me a hard time - and I don't think I'll ever get down their husbands and wives." Charlie shook his head, it was one thing to learn the names and most of the birthday of his nieces and nephews but when they started having families of their own - well that was where Charlie drew the line.
"One of these days, you'll get me to make a declaration of love myself, don't lose hope yet." He snickered, honestly he couldn't imagine keeping up this running joke between the two of them this long with any one else.
Charlie watched as Callum looked out over the fire and into the night, it seemed that his initial view on Callum hadn't been all that wrong then. He knew the feeling though, all of this was a mess - the war, that they were all trapped here in this stupid castle, but being here - with the dragons, falling back into familiar routines, it made all of this bearable. "A little familiarity helps sometimes." He agreed. "And I suppose even you have your own brand of lovable charm, I just hope you're not going to start getting all sentimental in front of the kids, they wouldn't know what to think." He chuckled
