Re: The Reception, Hannah and open
"Of course it's not an imposition to you. You aren't touched by it. You aren't asked if you want to change your name; no one looks at you strange if you keep your last name, everyone assumes that the children will have your last name. Men don't give up anything, but don't tell me that it wasn't a claim, maybe not monetary, but you've said it yourself that you wanted people to know that we will be together for the rest of our lives.
"What you don't see is that this is a convention that gives men the right to do what they want. How many men get married and have their mistress on the side, and no one complains, but if I woman does it, she's a whore. Everything about marriage is about giving men a right over women, so while you don't see anything wrong, I think that promoting a cultural tradition created to enslave women is very wrong. Maybe if I had fought harder and we hadn't got married, Rose wouldn't be getting tied to a boy at eighteen," she said. "Or your son wouldn't be talking about spending the rest of his life with a girl, a fourteen year old. That's just so very wrong."
Hermione shook her head. "No, I wasn't going to divorce nor would I leave you. Being with you is the most important thing in the world. Doing it in a way that it's contrary to women's freedom is not, because regardless of what it is for you, in a broader sense, marriage is a another limitation on women."
