She rubbed Ron's back as they danced, trying to show Ron that they were still a couple, and no amount of ceremonies or lack thereof made a difference in their lives.
Hermione looked up at Ron and brushed his cheek. "That's the point, though. It's something you do; it's an imposition created by men to show that a woman was hers, to stake a claim. It's a civilised pissing contest, and then they have turned into something religious, something to do if you want to be 'good'." She smiled. "Do you really think it would make a difference? Are we less as a couple now that we aren't married? Do you love me less?"
She smiled. "Everyone else knows how you feel because you can't be discreet for any reason, but the way we show everyone is by being together for the rest of our lives. Marriages can end, divorce is legal. Nothing proves that you will be together other than being together."
