Summary: Kat runs into Cassandra while avoiding home
Katherine had always loved Yaxley Hall. It was not as big as Malfoy or Nott Manor, but it was light and airy and beautiful. It was home, where she'd felt most comfortable, and where she'd thought nothing could ever hurt her. Had thought, had felt - everything had changed with the engagement.
The tension in the house was almost tangible. Her father was annoyed and irritated, displeased with the situation, while still enforcing it. Her mother might be as displeased, but the preparations were taking all her time. It seemed every time Kat put her nose outside her bedroom door, wedding preparations were thrown on her. Did she want a wedding in autumn or summer colours? Did she she want round tables or long ones? Was it to be held inside or outside? What kind of wedding cake did she want? Even though Kat had told her mother that she didn't care, it seemed she just couldn't stop herself from asking.
Which was why Kat spent as much time away from home as possible. Work was a refuge, even with the odd looks and quiet questions, and when it was over, Kat took to spending her father's money in the shops of Diagon Alley, not because she really wanted to, but because she still could. It was her freedom, and she'd use it as long as she had it. After having forced herself to sit down and pick a wedding dress yesterday (her mother would have picked something completely dated if she'd been allowed to make that choice) she felt she needed a treat.
She was coming out of Twilfit and Tattings after having ordered three new robes with matching shoes and jewellry when she came across Cassandra, and if it took her a moment longer than normal to smile, then could anyone really blame her?
"Hello Cassandra," she said, nodding her head. "I hope you are well?" she asked politely.
