The argument came so far from left it was right and Remus just blinked, dumbfounded, as Regulus pulled away. In fact, he just sat there, stone cold, as Regulus' sudden anger washed over him. Followed by his own, which he suppressed forcefully.
"I'm sorry," he said quietly, not moving. "I didn't mean to sound as if I was questioning your judgement. I was questioning hers. Nor was I defending Harry, merely making an observation regarding his conditioning, which he can't seem to overcome, despite, as you did point out, how others have."
He bit his lip in an effort to keep his own emotions under control. "I know what you were considering," he continued, trying not to shout or sob -- really he didn't know which he wanted to do more. It seemed clear he'd been wrong. It was the first option after all. "Although it seems you don't know how much that meant to me."
Swallowing hard, he closed his eyes and turned away because couldn't bring himself to ask the question burning in his mind -- how long had Regulus been harbouring feelings still for Severus?
