Re: Belvina/Stephen
"Stephen, you know my thoughts on such matters. I don't like to feel inferior to..." She sighed. "Can we not discuss this? I shall never agree. I liked that film we went to, you know that, but this is my heritage, my family. I would like to think that one of those men can stop being selfish enough long enough to marry and have a child. They can do what they want afterwards. Plenty of married men have affairs... I might hope but I wouldn't expect my future husband to stay faithful once we have had children."
"I do like you and don't begin to think of fishing for compliments," she added with a grin, glancing up at him coyly to hide the amused gleam in her eyes. "It wouldn't be proper now you're engaged to be wed to somebody else. I wouldn't tie myself to a man I haven't got the first inkling about. I don't know if I believe in love, I've never been in love, but I do believe love might grow from like and respect."
