Stephen nodded. "I do, and they aren't pleasant, but I want you aware of what's going on about you. One day, it might be vital." He still smiled at her. "Just pretend that we're talking about nonsense, smiling, okay?"
He didn't bother looking around, because standing like this, smiling, they'd look like the happy couple everyone pretended them to be. "I had a visit from Lestrange. He indicated that your sister wanted him to have a word with me, man to man. He went on to explain how a woman should be treated. He said-" He looked at her, and it was hard to keep the smile on, but she needed to hear. "He said that women need to be trained, and that they respond to pain, and that only that way I could ensure that I would get you to do what I want. I don't think he expects anything to happen before we're married, but you might get questions afterwards."
