They decided to wait until dinner for the next meeting. It really wasn't a meeting at all. James waited until the food was served to reach the podium.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm sorry to disturb you while we're having dinner. However, we have some news from the outside. There were several new decrees that have been passed today. Any Ministry worker that is not swearing alliance to Voldemort is considered a traitor and put to death. The same is true of any Order member. They have authorized the use of all lethal spells, and there will be no trial," he said. "As bad as that sound, I don't think we won't have to worry since we aren't going anywhere," he added, smiling, although he was thinking about the people out there.

"There are some that will affect us. Starting tomorrow, Voldemort, the Fidelius spell, Dumbledore and Order of the Phoenix will be Taboo. Be very careful with what you say. While they can't get inside, we don't want them to know how many people we have, nor do we want their attention on us." At least for now, although that wouldn't last. "Also they are monitoring all magical transportation: Floo, Portkeys and Apparition. So even when open up to the outside world, magical transportation will be off limits. This is all for now. Enjoy our dinner."

Snape waited until James had left the podium before moving to stand there in turn. "Before we eat, I do have one final piece of news: not an emergency I assure you," he hastened to add, "nothing so vital to the conduct of the war as anything my colleague has said. But I like to think it's good news."

He paused, his gaze finding Al where he sat, in the midst of the audience, and he smiled. "I'm delighted to announce that this morning, in a private ceremony to minimise disruption to everyone's routine, Albus Potter and I were wed."

He inclined his head, and with a simple "Good evening," he strolled away from the podium.

James turned to Alastor without even thinking, and then looked out to the crowd, smiling again, hoping that very few people had caught his surprise.

He was already thinking of the consequences of this little announcement, and the fact that Severus would never be able to reach the podium for any reason ever again seemed a likely possibility. However that didn't mean that he couldn't have some fun.

He stood up and used to Sonorus spell. "Since Severus has decided to share the news with everyone, I'd like to propose a toast. To my brother, Albus, who's sitting right there. Al, stand up, I'm sure everyone here will want to congratulate you when we're done... with hugs, and of course, to Severus, my newest brother-in-law. I am very happy that you could find happiness in each other during such dark times. We wish both of you a long and happy marriage, and I'm sure that everyone in the family can't wait to tell you in person how they fell about this momentous occasion. Cheers."

Snape hadn't quite re-seated himself when James stood. He shot James a momentary 'I'm awake-up to you, my lad' look, before inclining his head in a bow, fixing a smile to his face and strolling over to Al's place.

He suspected Al would need someone to run interference, and who better to discourage hugs than Severus Snape?

Al was just about to ooze under the table as the focus of over two-hundred people - but especially Mum and Dad - turned on him. He seriously considered countering Jamie's Sonorus with 'No hugs please, still sore from last night," which was technically - sorta true.

He stood up and gripped Severus' hand, and peered at the hall filled with people.

He looked down and took off his glasses then - the crowd looked less imposing when Al wasn't looking at it through them, anyway. Al turned to Severus then and, still gripping Severus' hand like a lifeline, planted them on top of Severus' head like a crown.

"We didn't exchange rings," he said in a voice soft even through a cast Sonorus, "I promised him my glasses when we're older."

Severus wore the odd decoration of Al's glasses, very much like a crown. "Perhaps someday I'll need them," he replied, though clearly he didn't need them now: the subtly discouraging look he directed at the hug-inclined in the room, was gimlet-sharp.

Afterwards, Al remained glued to Severus' side, as if to say: 'hug us if you dare!'

He was only slightly prepared to also act as curse shield, from someone like Mum.

Even she would surely see that hexing someone who was one-third of people in charge was a swift way to get everyone sent into Voldemort's - oops, Taboo! - waiting arms.

She could see that people were unsure of what to do, but bloody hell, she had promised the D man that they'd have a perfect wedding. "Well, what is everyone waiting for. Bottoms up," she said, but instead of drinking, she took her wand out and cast a spell, strings of bright paper appeared over the happy couple, with glitter dropping over the Great Hall. Another flicker and the wedding march rang inside the room.

It wasn't perfect, but she hadn't really thought about decorations with everything that had been going on. n, she went to them. "Severus, love, I'm so happy for you." She gave him a full hug, even if she ended up touching Al and kissed him smack on the lip. "The D man was really looking forward to this." She turned to Al, grinning. "Well, congratulations to you as well, love." She hugged him as well, kissing his cheek."

Al was about protest the two-for-one treatment but Marlene remained in the convenient blast range between Severus and Mum so he couldn't complain too much and every human shield helped.

"Thank you," he said, if only slightly frazzled. "Who is The Demon?"

Snape went stiff as a scarecrow with shock as Marlene not only hugged him but actually kissed him! The round eyes and beaky nose only increased his resemblance to a startled owl.

His first impulse was of course to Incendio the blasted decorations, but the damage had already been done. So he exerted himself only subtly: the glitter that landed on him slid off, like water from the back of a greasy duck.

"Oh, aren't you adorable? No, not the Demon, the D-man, as in Dumbledore, but since we can't say his name." She smiled at him again.

Marlene giggled when the glitter landed on Severus' black robe. "You really should have something much more appropriate to celebrate." She wasn't as good as Dumbledore, but she had learnt a lot, and she was moving her wand again. This time, the robe turned green, and all the hems were silver. There were also little silver snakes, sliding around in an imaginary dance. "Now, he would have approved of that. I'm so very happy for you." She hugged Severus again, smiling.

Snape cringed inwardly at Marlene's idea of 'appropriate to celebrate'. Part of his mind was already riffling through a very long list of undetectable potions, even as he gathered all his courage and looked down at himself.

He breathed again at the sight of Slytherin-green and silver. That could have been so very much worse. Unicorns and rainbows worse! Out of sheer relief he actually gave Marlene a pat on the shoulder. It was the sort of cautious pat bestowed on a wild animal or potential explosive.

"Not until tomorrow when V-man, as in Voldemort, puts the Taboo in pace," Al informed Marlene. He disliked the thought of censorship. It mangled perfectly acceptable language for no reason, but since she insisted...

"Um," he said watching the new decorations she put in place. "Additionally, my S-man's midsection snakes are copulating counterclockwise. Is that intentional?"

"We can call him Riddle or the annoying one. Do you like that name? I think it's very appropriate, and I've always called him the D man," she told him, grinning.

"You're really as cute as Severus, aren't you?" She cupped his cheeks and kissed him again, on the lips this time. "We can make them do whatever we want. I was thinking that they could eat themselves and explode into fireworks, but I don't think, your sweet husband would like them."

"They could perform all sorts of acts while blending into the background. Er, is there a significance in helping us kiss by proxy?"

Snape looked down again at himself, and was vaguely appalled to find that Al was right about the snakes. He would've tried a freezing charm, but with his luck it'd affect the flesh beneath as well as the embroidery. Instead he threw Al a 'did you have to tell her?' quelling look, though Al was in no position to see it given Marlene's liplock.

In response to Marlene's last comment, he intoned "Good call." in the sort of voice that really should crystallise icicles out of summer air.

Ginny had looked about ready to hex Severus from where she was sitting when the news were announced, and she was definitely not in a good mood. Having calmed her sufficiently, he left her with Bill as he made his way to Al and Severus, swallowing the dislike of the union. What was the point of complaining? It would upset Al and be of no use, though when he approached, he still was unsure of what to say.

Congratulations seemed appropriate, yet not exactly heartfelt. He sighed, reminding himself that they loved each other, and that he promised to be supportive.

"Hello," he said as he approached. "I guess congratulations are in order," he said with a small smile, which was as much out of amusement at Severus' new robes as out of anything else.

Snape certainly wasn't expecting heartfelt congratulations from Harry. He was pleasantly surprised to receive any congratulations at all. So he smiled as he inclined his head and replied, "Thank you very much; I'm extremely happy." He glanced sideways at Al and shifted his stance slightly in a minute hint that Al might want to attend to this conversation instead of the previous one.

Actually, any conversation that didn't centre around all the embarrassing things the snakes on his robes could be made to do, would be a huge improvement.

"What-huh?" Al muttered, squinting, slightly frazzled, at the faces to focus on Dad. "Oh, order is good," he agreed. "As well as your congratulations and your guess. Thank you."

Harry smiled at his son, because no matter what he liked or didn't like about this union, he loved his son. He reached out and hugged his son.

"I'm glad you're happy," he said softly to his ear. More honest, more heartfelt. Because no matter how much he'd prefer another union, he wanted his son to be happy. He pulled back. "Your mother promises not to hex your husband today, considering I'd say it's as good as congratulations."

He looked over at Severus. "Do take the time to speak to her," he advised.

"That's encouraging," Al grinned, responding back just as softly. "Do let her know that our honeymoon has been extended to the end of this century at least, and subject to renewal after that, so she may not have Severus' balls while I'm using them."

He liked Mum much better when Dad acted as a message carrier between them. Always did.

"We're happy," he assured Dad. "And you have a new son-in-law as of 4 AM this morning."

Harry blinked. "I'll just tell her not to hex him, shall I?" he said, ignoring most of that statement. He did not want to think of owls and Severus in the same sentence.

Harry looked at Severus. Son-in-law? Now that wasn't something he'd ever expected. "I should say welcome to the family," he said, though he'd never feel as warm towards Severus as he did towards Sirius, there was no possibility of that.

"When you have time," he said addressing Severus. "I'd appreciate talking over the security arrangements," he said. "I realise that I have no authority here, but I hope that I can still contribute with my knowledge." Now that was something that took more than a little bit of effort to say. It was strange, up until a year ago he'd just been an Auror, but one year in charge and it was hard to let it go. Mostly though, he just wanted to do something. Sitting around waiting for orders coming from none other than his son was difficult to say the least.

Severus gave Harry a slyly amused, sidelong glance. "Should you really say that?" he inquired in his driest tones, teasing gently (for him).

He nodded in response to Harry's last comments. "Certainly," he replied easily, "I'd value your input." It was, for once, no more than the simple, unvarnished truth. He's an Auror, he's been running the Aurors; surely he has to have picked up valuable knowledge in the process.

Harry smiled at bit. "I think it's expected," he retorted. "Though if you worry about the risk I can certainly understand it," he teased back.

He nodded. "We'll find some time soon then," he said, seeing more people come over. "Let me know when it fits your schedule." Because while he had little to do other than doing patrols and waiting around, he knew that Severus was busy. Maybe that was the thing that grated on him the most, having nothing to do. He was about ready to climb the walls soon.

"I think others wants your time now, however," he said. "Let me know and I'll be there."

Hearing Jamie's toast, Rose had to blink and shake her had to make sure she heard right. They went through with it? After everything that had just happened? Uncle George's death and Gran missing... She was having a hard time believing they went through with it. Then again, Al had always done things his way and change or adjustment was not something that came easily to him, at least that was her opinion of her cousin.

After spending a respectable amount of time pushing her food around, she excused herself and walked up to the table where Al and Headmaster Snape were sitting. Without thinking twice, she hugged Al. "Congratulations," she said before whispering in his ear. "Are you happy?"

When she pulled away, she gave a polite nod. "Welcome to the family," she said to her boss.

Al looked as he usually looked during a Weasley party, but with more streamer paper forming a multicolored rat nest on his head, thanks to Marlene.

Al assessed his emotional state at the time of the question and replied with an affirmative "Yes," whispered back into Rose's ear.

Some of the streamer paper from the top of his head got stuck in her hair, the thin long curls of it matching her better than they did Al.

Even if she disagreed with him going through the wedding, Rose was pleased that he was happy. "Then I am happy as well."

Since some of the streamer paper got in her hair, she careful removed it from her fizzy curls. Once the streamer was free, she held it up for Al to take. "Would you like it back in your hair?"

He shook his head, at least half-a-dozen more streamer strands uncurling and bouncing down to his shoulders like curls. "No thank you, I've got plenty more, but Severus might."

Rose stole one more glance at her boss and then at the streamer in her hand. With a small smile, she shook her head at her cousin. "I don't think he can quiet pull off the curly streamer the way you can."

She took the streamer and strategically placed it on his head before casting one of the few hair charms she knew to keep the streamers from getting stuck in someone else's hair. "There you go."

Snape fixed Rose with one of those Looks. "I couldn't agree with you more, Miss Weasley." he intoned.

"And thank you for the good wishes. I'm sure I shall enjoy being part of your family," he declared with ghoulish enthusiasm.

With only a tiny smile, she turned to him. "Since we are family, you might as well call me Rose."

I bet you will enjoy it, she thought as she snorted. "I bet just as much as my father enjoyed you potions classes."

Once more, she gave Al a hug before moving away from the table to her room so she could grab things to move into Bryn's assigned room.

Scorpius had spent his first few days cataloging the potions that Lori had brought from St. Mungo's and pitching in where needed. He tried to take his own mind off of his grandmother. She had disowned him just like the rest but he was still sad. Lori understood that it hurt him. When he heard the news, he smiled at first but then felt another wave of sadness.

He watched people congratulate Al and he put on a smile. He walked over to his friend. "Congratulations," he said. "You really could have told me first." He was teasing about that. He really was happy for Al. It was also making him want something he couldn't quite name. Maybe it was just all the chaos they had been through.

"Thank you," Al beamed at his friend. "It was four o'clock in the morning when we decided to do it. I doubt you would've been awake then."

When summarized like that, in a sentence, the decision did sound slightly off-balance, on an impulsive and crazy scale, but he knew it was a right choice to make.

Scorpius really didn't think it was that crazy, but nice. He had grown to like some things that were not planned. His life had always been mapped out, but it felt good to be impulsive. He also would have done the same thing.

He clapped al on the shoulder. "So you are married now. I never thought you would do that before me - EVER. Have you considered changing your last name?" It was all a little amusing and strange, but it made him wonder if he would do that someday.
